Major thread revival! But thought it would be better than starting a new one.
I'm currently interested in doing this type of stage one upgrade to my 2000 E46 330i.
Can someone give me the best "bang for buck" order of doing things? Something to keep in mind, she is currently my daily but the plan is to build her into a track car next year so I'm trying to make the mods build up to that so that I firstly don't do unnecessary things and secondly don't do things twice.
Also where can I get some quotes in Pretoria and what price should I be expecting these days?

The best money you can spend on the M54 is to replace the VANOS seals (if you have not done this already) before doing any other upgrades. You will be amazed by all the low-rev torques that will be restored.

Seals are R 905 shipped give me a shout when you ready... this engine can be DIYed by someone who is a little handy with a wrench as timing is not changed when removing the Vanos unit

Bring your car one Saturday when you have the seals, I can show you how it should be done. I have done it before on the X3.

You should also buy the valve cover gaskets & grommets, oil filler gasket, and the little left-hand thread vanos piston bolts before you start.

How often should Vanos seals be done?

The OEM vanos seals fail soon and last no more than 100k km. My wife's X3 has the new Beisan seals since about 80k km ago, and I can still detect no symptoms yet of lazy vanos. I think the new Beisan seals should last quite long.

if you have OEM seals you should replace them they are not made of a good material
