uhm, I am no mechanic but I know a little bit about a little bit. BUt in my humble opinion, that just looks like it just had a carbon build-up. the plugs are dry around the electrode, so I don't think the rings are shot.

maybe over fueling at some stage.. I don't know..

the reason for my statement, when I had my Astra, she was fitted old school style.. SIDEDRAUGHTS.. when VETGAT(the astra) was over fueling, the plugs looked similar if not the same. When I tuned the carbs and balanced it, the plugs would be a brownish dark caramel and cream colour.

just my 2 cents

I ran the idea past boetie. He has kindly offered me his leak - down tester to find out the condition of the rings. I will take up his offer and report back my findings. It's a little disheartening that all my work was on a possible fubar motor...I'm feeling somewhat bummed right now...

Warren if you getting so much oil as to cause a mess it does not sound like the motor is healthy.
What do the plugs look like?
Can you post pics of them?

Plugs were changed out by Cobus. He said the old ones were screwed. He also said I must start the car and drive and not let it sit idling as it will foul/destroy the plugs...

Reason he says to start and drive is coz his tuning is not right, he flooding low down and on idle, killing the plugs, and also explains why the car is an effort to start.

Boetie has borrowed me his Leak-down tester and I will perform the test in the next day or two. On a lighter side I was able to source all the much needed boot accessories, will need to weld on the jack mount as the original is long gone!

Can be burnt exhaust valves or blown rings or both, while doing the test on cyl 4 I could hear air hissing out of cyl 5 spark plug hole so most definitely exhaust valve or valve seat damage on cyl 4.

Money pit...probably the worst I have ever seen so far on this forum. You have basically built this car from the bottom up and redone everything and replaced so many parts only to end up at this point. and This has been going from the time I had my 330D and you were replacing control arm bushes for me that car was still in your yard. Eish! :sorry::cry::cry:
