I phoned Turbo and Nos Connection and he offered me Wiseco Honda B18B forged pistons for R10k that apparently would work and give me 8.0:1 compression. I think it's too low depending how much the owner wants to boost the motor. Rods at R8500 but out of stock, will investigate the wiseco's but CP is my 1st choice and will be using them on my own turbo motor. Will see what the customer wants and can afford.

Carillo pistons and rods are definitely top top quality but why not Arias, JE ?

Just an fyi the owner wants to sell the car for R150k.

May i ask if you had to guesstimate, what you think it will cost to complete this project?
For a fully built reliable S50B30 pushing 500-600whp about R100k.

Eish, this is the first time I see this. I feel for the owner, i got sold a lemon when i got my Disco1, also from a so called "reputable Landi mechanic".

How far is this build if I may ask? And well done on the work you did so far, awesome job.

Some of you know this car as it comes from Cape Town, well a customer of mine in JHB bought it some time back and paid way too much for a poorly built wreck of a M3. He was very disappointed when the car arrived as it was in no state that the former owner had said it was, such is the issue of buying a car from a far away place without looking at it in the flesh....
Anyway, after 20km of driving in JHB the car broke down with a broken turbo oil feed, the car was flat bedded to me and sat here for some months while I finished on other project cars. The customer has asked me to go bumper to bumper and fix everything I find wrong with it and boy there is alot wrong with it! Now Im all in with this rebuild and I just want to show you guys how poor the workmanship in this country can be...

Awesome tiny intercooler placement, behind the bumper stiffener where there is no airflow...
SDC12118.jpg

Intercooler mounts are 3 cable ties, one on the top and 2 on the bottom, NASA quality right there!!
SDC12117.jpg

SDC12119.jpg

Wastegate dumps into engine bay.
SDC12122.jpg

Wiring mess behind headlight.
SDC12123.jpg

Cut and weld job on the oil cooler lines.
SDC12124.jpg

Bonnet insulation collapsing and windshield cowling missing, windshield also poorly installed as water comes in from the top.
SDC12125.jpg

Crappy boost pipe is the lowest point of a 60mm dropped car, 1 speed bump and its stuffed! Oh and turbo has no filter so everything it picks up is being force fed into the engine! Severe oil leak on turbo drain and leaking oil cooler too.
SDC12128.jpg

Transmission tunnel insulation has disintegrated and running on the propshaft, gearbox rubbers in pieces and propshaft flex disc collapsing too.
SDC12129.jpg

SDC12130.jpg

Grass-fit exhaust hard up against rear sway bar.
SDC12131.jpg

SDC12132.jpg

With the plenum chamber out the way I can see where the turbo oil feed is tee'd into the filter housing. What a mess!

Now its time I sort this shit out, first we need to address the intercooler and bigger is better!
SDC12134.jpg

SDC12135.jpg

Proper way to mount an intercooler and still run brake ducts!

Setrab oil cooler will be mounted above intercooler this week.
SDC12144.jpg

I will be doing alot of mods/repairs to the car in the next few weeks like 6 speed swap, bi xenon conversion, Setrab oil cooler and braided lines, new boost pipes, new dump valve, air filter, 6puck copper clutch plate, roller sun blind, m3 lip boot spoiler and many other fixes/upgrades on the list.
I will keep you guys posted and updated with pics too.

Hey Gizmo,

Where did you get that cooler from?

Hey Gents

Its been more than a year since we had any movement on my build.
Finally we getting some where!

When I got the news from Gizmo that the motor was cooked you can imagine I was demoralised- so much so that I considered selling the car.
When I then decided to keep it the question arose, as to what route to go?

Being a power freak as we all are I was looking to make the most amount of bhp but on a budget. As such my thoughts turned to the 2JZ option.
Its proven to make power and is reliable. But the biggest thing keeping me back is that I would be turning my pristine M3 into a Frankenstein.

So we decided to rebuild the original motor. When Peter initially told me it would cost R100k+- I thought this laughable. As it stands we're well, well past that.

So the build now includes:
Darton Sleeves
Eagle Rods
Wossner Pistons
ARP Studs- upper and lower
ACL Race bearings
Cometic Head Gasket
Flowed and polished head
New Downpipes
New Top Mount Turbo Manifold
New Boost Pipes
New Oil and Water Lines
Turbosmart Waste Gate
Turbosmart eboost2- Boost controller
New Water Pump
Precision 6262 Turbo- We're hoping the move away from the Holset truck based turbo to a street race turbo will aid spool and increase drive-ability.
Complete Wet Nos Kit with Progressive Controller

Am considering getting a Budler intake manifold but I doubt my wallet can stretch that far. The bulk of the parts were ordered when the rand was sitiing north of R15:$1 so I paid ridiculous prices.

The plan is to have the car ready by end of April hopefully.
After spending this much on the motor already, I fear that my gearbox, suspension setup will be the next weak link in the chain.

Ideally I would like to see her run on the 1km but for now i will be happy to have a running, driving car that I can scare myself to death with!

Kudos for sticking it out through the tough times. These things are never cheap, but they are desires of the heart and thus we think with our hearts and not our minds :clapper: Seriously looking forward to see this car move again :clapper:

Darton Sleeves

I don't mean to cause trouble here but how sure are you that those sleeves are darton? Do you have a bill of sale? Proof that you actually have bought Darton sleeves? And how much did you pay for them. I ask these questions because my rebuild by Peter was supposed to use Darton sleeves, but we soon discovered that the sleeves installed were infact not Darton sleeves but rather "no name" el cheapo's. How did we find out? Well, the sleeves eventually broke and I had to rebuild my engine again. Upon opening the engine we discovered the cracked sleeves.

I sincerely hope that Peter learned his lesson with my car and got you the real deal.

All I am saying is Double check. You've spent enough money on this car already.

Again, I am not trying to stir trouble. Just don't want anyone else ending up in the same place I did.

All the best.

Also, did you use a Torque Plate when you bored and honed your block?

You being serious?

The reason your block was sleeved was due to the fact that you did not have money for new pistons.
DARTON sleeves are even more expensive than a set of pistons.

Now stop derailing the thread with comments which add zero value other than to show that your vendetta is continuing.

I'll be quick here. Peter, it doesn't matter if I said I could not afford new pistons or not, the fact here remains that you told me Darton sleeves would be used, never did you bring it to my attention that infact Darton sleeves were not used. So, yeah, I am being dead fucking serious china.

I posted this so that the OP can make sure he isn't getting fucked over like you did to me. So, call it a vandetta if you want, but I'm just making sure you don't hurt anyone else.

Gizmo, thanks for clearing that up. The way the OP spoke about Peter and the engine made it sound like he was building the engine. I already feel better for the guy knowing Peter isn't touching the car.

PS. I don't see this as a derailment as it has very serious implications. This forum is for helping and for others to learn. So I digress, this is my experience with being told my engine has Darton sleeves. Just make sure they got you the real thing, or you may be rebuilding in a years time as normal sleeves will not hold up.

All the best.

Oh.. one last thing. Are you sleeving down or up? What bore size and do you have a torque plate?

I have one if you need.
