Please keep the S50B30 motor! An M3 needs an M3 motor even if it's turbo charged, without an M motor it would never feel complete to me!
Im completely with you there, would rather take my time building up the S50 but alas the owner after spending so much money doesn't want to do that right now.

Eish..I can see this turning into a couple years of a project and endless ball ache. The safest route for me would be to overhaul the current motor, this way you get to keep all the hard work you have done on every other aspect of the engine with regards to turbo and wiring harness, tuning etc. A new motor is going to be a serious mission. It always sounds easy until all the problems pop up during the install and then its BIG bucks! and lets not forget that the replacement motor could have problems of its own, then shit will hit the fan proper!

Just look at other peeps on the forum that have tried to do engine swaps with engines designed for other cars and those projects are still not complete even years down the line. Also you will need a new gearbox and all sorts of things welded here and there, new custom prop shafts etc etc its a bloody mess at the end of the day..Just fix the current engine, at least then when something goes wrong you can walk into a dealership and get a replacement part with ease.

I'm pretty sure after all this time and money spent the guy wants a reliable car, not something that drives around the block and then sits at the mechanic for the next 6 months and this keeps happening.

Not trying to sound negative I'm just being realistic about the situation. no one likes an unreliable car that just keeps giving shit, ask me I know.

Arp bolts – R7000

Acl bearings R6000

Eagle rods R9500

Wiseco low comp pistons R12500

Labour R xxxx

So bottom end will not be too bad to rebuild, the most expensive part is the head.

I vote for a rather stock rebuild of the current motor, cheaper and more reliable then a replacement motor, that if you want peace of mind, will need to be rebuild anyway.

If a new motor is installed the cost for the parts to be turbo compatible would be the same as keeping the s50b30 therefore see little benefit in swapping out to anything else.

The most economical approach would be to rebuild the existing motor correctly for the boost numbers targeted.

Ryan collected the car this morning and I feel quite disappointed in giving an incomplete vehicle back to the customer, doesn't sit too well with me but there is nothing I can do about it. He has asked me to put a list together of all the parts to be ordered from VAC, besides the obvious stuff like pistons, rods, bearings, gaskets, vanos delete plate, ARP studs, valves etc what else must we order?

Oil pump upgrade is a good idea.

Getting all the stuff from VAC is pricey. Why not go like Wiseco pistons instead of CP? etc etc?

What power is he looking for with a built motor?

Vac is good. They can make you any comp pistons you require. CP is a highly respected brand. HPF used them in their M3 turbo's. If he wants a proper turbo car, build it right. Wiseco are also good, but I've only really heard of them in Merc cars. Doesn't mean they won't work.

ARP L19 studs. CP pistons and chrome moly rings. Not sure what rods they have, anything VAC provides is damn good shit.

As Burgy mentioned, if you can, get the uprated oil pump. An MLS head gasket set and also Big end and main bearings from VAC with performance coating.

Do you require Valves? I honestly don't think you would need a new set of valves unless they're damaged. Sorry, haven't followed the build completely. If they are, VAC has some inconel racing valves for the exhaust side with single groove locks. Can take more abuse and heat. less chance of dropping valves too.

I would spend the money on a good set of CP pistons with whatever COMP you require, good rods and the ARP L19 studs.

I definitely agree with using the best parts etc. But Ive been following the thread and it seems that the owner has already poured a large amount of cash into the car, and yes, 'you have to pay to play', but saving a few bucks here and there will not ruin the build. (all within reason of course)

Ie, as I said before, you could use Wiseco pistons instead of CP and save a few bucks.

Some things you cannot save on though, like ARPs..

BUT it all depends..

But what sort of power do you want to achieve? What budget? etc etc

I phoned Turbo and Nos Connection and he offered me Wiseco Honda B18B forged pistons for R10k that apparently would work and give me 8.0:1 compression. I think it's too low depending how much the owner wants to boost the motor. Rods at R8500 but out of stock, will investigate the wiseco's but CP is my 1st choice and will be using them on my own turbo motor. Will see what the customer wants and can afford.

Ya, 8:1 is a bit low for the application. What size is the turbo?

Dont get me wrong, I love my cp's, definitely top quality
