If I was Crash, I would have taken a 500Km trip last night, then turned around and headed for home :)

Run-In sorted :)

I think a road trip is in order

Road trips are no way to run in a vehicle as you are cruising at a constant speed on the freeway. You need the stop/go robot to robot stuff for the ever changing rpms and loads to run in an engine properly.

I must say this was probably the most intently followed thread on this forum ever.

Great news to hear she is back home at last Chris. Keep her in running this time.

Cant wait for the video. And like Dippies said rep is on the order of the day.

Car is pulling like crazy... and i'm not passing 4000rpm... its just instant throttle response and you can feel she wants to just go.

Definitely more grunt. Sounds awesome...

Video up later... been very busy these past two days with delivering Blu Ray copies of my film to nu metro for local release... Sorry chaps.

Went for a drive with Chris earlier and even though we couldn't go past 4000rpm the car feels so much better than the last time I was in it!

Which was obviously before the rebuild:rollsmile:

A bit of a filler.

Alexander and I saw the car roughly 1 year ago when we went to try and reset the cam timing on it.

The general condition of the car underneath indicated shoddy work as everything was covered in oil.
At that time we proposed to Chris that the car be stripped and re assembled correctly.

Imagine having just paid a mechanic some R25 000 and someone tells you you need to do the work again.
Chris was certainly not a happy camper.

The car became progressively worse over the time it took for Chris to gather his financial resources until he got to a point where he stopped driving it.

When we stripped the engine we found a series of snags on it such as grey silicone sealant everywhere and when I say everywhere I mean everywhere on every pipe, O Ring, surface, orifice, cavity.

The compression rings had not been gapped so they had collapsed in the ring lands.
The camsaft caps had been over tightened and there were a series of stripped threads which were repaired.

Everything was cleaned and measured and whatever needed replacing was replaced.
Every bolt and nut is as per manufacturer specification and has been bought from the agents.

All fasteners were torqued to BMW specification for the grade of fastener.

At a rough estimate we spent no less than 80 hours on the engine making sure that it was correct.

Assembly of engine bay took some 20 hours.

Chris spent many a night sitting silently and observing my smoking technique.

All in all I am not surprised that the car has turned out well as it was given the correct amount of attention without the use of sealants other than where BMW specifies.

The man in the blue overalls and I are happy that what we have produced is consistent with the pedigree of the car.

May it give its owner many a trouble free trips.......and may its owner run it in quickly for I will surely bury my size 10's on the loud pedal when appropriate.

p.s We have as yet not resolved a few outstanding issues such as wardrobe -make up and manicurist I do though remain hopefull that it will soon be resolved.

Congratulations and thank you very much for doing such epic work on my car. :praise:

I will be fetching the car this weekend from Chris as he has decided he is tired of such a mint condition car and wants a new project car with some issues to fix.

 I'll really enjoy the car thanks!
