discussion Advice on a non daily BMW, something M or M Light

Hey all. So the thinking/research still continues. I generally don't make these decisions quickly, plus there have been some outside distractions that have kept me occupied at the same time.

I don't want to bore anyone with all my thinking but perhaps a nutshell version will suffice - any input would be welcome.

The main thinking has forked in to ideas - sell the 320d and get a new daily OR keep the 320d as a daily and get something more sporty.

Sell the 320d for a new daily - this will mean it has to be a 4 door. Contenders would be an F80 M3, M140i, M135i Xdrive or M235i GC. Now I would need to choose between something under motor plan and new age interior, or something not - the latter would also be something RWD with a 3L 6 cylinder motor. So basically M80 M3/M140i OR M135i Xdrive/M235i GC. Whichever way I go here its going to be the bigger outlay of monies.

Keep the 320d for something more sporty - this can be a 2 door. Contenders here would be F82 M4, E92 M3 or M240i. The M240i though just doesn't feel like me... F82 M4 also a big outlay of money. E92 M3 - there are a few going for reasonable prices now +-R300k (plus some for maintenance).

The E92 M3 is feeling like a good choice at this stage - but I haven't driven all of them yet. Really just busy at work and a few other items. I am hoping to conclude this search in the next two months. I will update again. Appreciate the follow up :)

I say keep the 320d for its long term reliability and get a toy.
A 135i Coupe or E92 335i would be my suggestions as toys.
An E92 M3, would be good, but will be hard to find an unmolested one at a good price.

I think this thread is a hoax and @Salt is just using it to up his post count. He has mentioned and considered every performance BMW under the sun but hasn't made a decision. Don't be so gullible guys.😂
Busted...Im pretty sure that VIP section of the forum is going to open up for me any second now 😁

I'm just slow when it comes to these things. I'm in no rush, I have time to properly do my research...just like when I joined the forum and asked for guidance back then...and eventually bought the 320d 😜

Given the current situation in SA with fuel...just go get yourself a 330d and big turbo that thing! Then daily it and sell the 320d to me :)

if I were you, id definitely keep the 320d and get the E92 M3 or one of your other compromising options.
youl honestly get the best of both worlds.

I had a similar decision to make and opted for the 2nd car, I also had a 320d and while it was an absolutely brilliant daily it didnt give me the spark the car guy in me so dearly craved, so i opted for the Z4MC.

There is a real petrolhead satisfaction in enjoying the occasion every time you drive the non daily especially if they chalk and cheese.
I currently have an F30 330d with the 8 speed, turbo diesel is effortless, refined and just so easy to live with daily, eats up miles without breaking a sweat but the Z4MC not being the fastest compared to modern day sports cars offers a raw thrilling driving experience, petrol, manual and NA in the glorious S54, you have to 'work' everytime you behind the wheel. too rough to enjoy daily but oh so rewarding when all you want is a spirited drive and something that feels special.
