Crash's Jezebel in for a Rebuild-Rebuilding an e46 S54 UPDATE on page 26

The plug still fits and we just got the engineers to cut a nice groove into the top so that we can fit a fat flat screw driver. Lots of room for that. RGM said they have the same problem with this bolt. It's an american hex design that needs to fit into there and common misconception is to use alan keys... which obviously strip the bolt. Luckily its a big bolt and cutting a nice groove into it to fit a screw driver will work for us. We will only put oil in once the charger is inside the car, and up, so no oil can leak out the bleed hole. Then, we tighten it with a screw driver and leave it like that for 25 000km.

Regarding the oil price... You're close... considering that the oil is $30 from Vortech. +- R300.

RGM want R1025.00 for it.

PS. The reason I originally freaked out was that I thought the inside of the Supercharger thread for this bolt had stripped. Thus a helicoil would have to be used. Another big concern was how to get the plug out. 1st problem, it is specific to this supercharger, so we couldn't just drill the bolt out and replace it by ramming any bolt in there. Vortech explicitly say, do not run the charger without this bleeder plug. 2nd problem was that if we did have to drill the bolt out, the problem of metal shards falling into the supercharger was a very real threat. This obviously would be a total F**k up and result in the charger having to be sent back to Vortech to be rebuilt, as they are built in a dust free environment and we can't have any metal debris on the impeller blades and the compressor blades inside.

But my fears are always far worse than the truth. None of that was to be and we are actually all ok. Supercharger is fine.

what you going to do about the plug :(

Probably nothing for now. Read the last 2 sentences of the 4th paragraph again. :bump: ;)

getting it back in is a different story :) but crash has since answered that...

And of course Crash just waited for me to open my big sarcastic mouth before he posted an update. ;)

For those who want to know where the dwarfs are:

Camper is the big boss dwarf's name
JB ENGINEERING
0117934410

They are located in Stijdom Park just off Malibongwe

Camper has been racing cars and bikes for years and I have known him for some 20 odd years.
To-date he has not delivered rubbish.

Be prepared to wait though and be prepared to pay large although the peace of mind more than makes up for the price.......

Whether it means anything or not all RGM machine work is undertaken at JB Engineering.

Is that oil really specific to superchargers?

Don't mind the ignorance, but is it not regular automatic transmission oil?

I know the Opels also use a special red oil made by Castrol - same colour as the supercharger oil. I've seen boxes fail when the guys put in regular gearbox oil on these cars.

This oil is made specifically for the V3. The V2 can run other oil. The V3 is a self lubricated supercharger and does not need to be tapped into the engine sump or oil cooler. Also, the V3 charger runs way more cooler than any other supercharger, hence no need to run an oil cooler.

The V3 Vortech can also be run safely without an intercooler up to 8psi. The oil is specific to this charger.

This can all be checked on vortech's webpage about the V3 chargers.

with no data sheet for the oil no one knows what is in there...
Vortech will also not warranty an SC with different oil put in

my guess is it would be some sort of ATF but you would have to have the same properties as the Vortech stuff

I could possibly get Liquimoly to analyse a sample to find the right oil in their range but it is probably just better to import your own if RGM want to charge you 3 times the price
