Bad news guys. Just got the 11 page report from BMW its a total write off...92% of retail price..Will see the next steps from insurance[/align]

i dont understand how that estimate could come in at 92 percent of retail?

could you go into a bit more detail with regard to what would have needed replacing if they didnt write it off?

Sorry to hear,
Please tell me you have short fall cover on your policy?

That is, if the car you bought is 10k, the bank loads all the finance and fee's upfront so you owe them 12k in total, shortfall covers the value of the interest you owe so that if in event of a claim, you are not left owing the bank anything at all....

To be specific it all came to R352k to repair....and looking at retail value of around R380K-R390K..the car had insured extras R25k i hope it can push the value up..from the list it looks like they are just rebuilding the whole suspension.

Was there chassis damage also...with that kind of damage rather accept the write off and get a new car...

ouch sorry to hear. i would rather have it written off than get a car back that has had major damage repaired. i just worry about your shortfall as mentioned by German_spec

sorry to hear about your car man...anyway as long as no one got hurt.

ps: what caused you to go over the pavement - did you try to avoid someone or something?

:sorry: Sorry to hear about the car, at least no injuries. There must be some chassis damage, so perhaps best that it goes to Beemer heaven. May be worth buying back, but let LZ check out the report. Good luck with the insurance, hope you can get a replacement soon, withdrawal is a bitch. :argh:

best to write it off and get a brand new one rather than loose the value by
having a comment on your motorplan.
besides, unless you done some upgrades on the car there is no reason to be "committed" to the damaged one vs a new one.

Sorry to hear this man:thumbdo:...having been thu something similar if the damage is more than 50% of the value of the car then it is normally written off...
Airbags aren't 50K, more like 6K...it's the dash thats expensive as it will need replacing. The aluminium bits around whatever was damaged on the suspension will be replaced even if it wasn't damaged in the accident, this is also another factor which increases repair cost by alot...MP insists on this due to safety...hope you get sorted..

Like it has been said before, if it's more than 70% of a car's value or more it is considered written off.

As 30% is the maximum one can get from salvaging the car.

Basic insurance principle :sorry:

Sad to see a car written off, but I would personally never want a car back that has suffered structural damage like this probably has.

Black Machine: Update us on what happened next. Have you thought about buying back the salvage? Have you had any difficulties getting a payout from Insurance?

I haven't got anything from insurance but looks like its going to be a fight to get a payout. The car has been sent to Hallmark savage..Any tips on insurance because i heard if its more than R300k they will find all excuses not pay plus if i contest this will go to High Court.

All the best man! Got me all scared considering the damage on my own car is more extensive than yours.

I have never dealt with insurance before (my first time in an accident), but I think it all depends on the fine print on your policy, and a bit of advice from someone who knows, maybe a lawyer or a member who has gone through the same hoops.
