Hey JM52
This is a great question, because this is where our definition of “budget” gets a little interesting. Whilst we do have a very limited bag of cash to throw at this project, we want to spend in the right places, as opposed to going “entry level” on everything we use. We believe that a few thousand rand can make a lot of difference in this department, and were willing to throw a bit more money at this element.
The point of reference here would be the Maxtrac, which goes for about R7500. Strictly speaking these are more of a street package than true race kit, but many racers are using them quite happily.
We saw value in the BC Racing setup we chose for the following reasons, over a Maxtrac or similar:
1. Adjustability (compression & rebound), giving us the ability to fine tune the setup;
2. Inverted mono tube configuration - reduced unsprung mass, and moving the damper oil reservoir away from the heat of the brakes;
3. True coilover on the rear (once BC gets our bloody order right! :rage

4. Camber plates & pillowball mounts included
5. Shortened sway bar links included
6. Very customizable we were able to spec spring rates which were VERY different to standard. We took some advice from Vorshlag here.
So, based on all of that, we were happy to pay R23k for the set, this is certainly not a budget setup, but believe it will deliver a better result than anything else at this price point.
So, further to point 3 above,
