I agree with your view. It would be interesting to know what the rand value is of the total purchase price.

If the value is under R100 000 then it makes sense to have it included in the purchase price. A 5 year MP valued for arguments sake under R100,000; is far more valuable. A blown engine could result in some meaty repair work.

There is another issue as well; if the MP does not affect the total value of the purchase price then it is an enormous valuable peace of mind for any owner to have. But i do not personally know the status qou on this.

This is the part I am unsure of too. I would say it is included in the price, but if they did offer the MP as an optional extra, we would end up paying more for the whole package.
in 2003 I purchased an Audi TT from Audi SA and the purchase price was R 295000 with R97000 of the amount for the motorplan.

I imagine that offereing MP as an optional extra would have little to no change on the current price of cars.

Also, the huge MP bills are only done on a fraction of all the cars sold, most cars are getting a couple litres of oil and some filters.

I am not sure if I can believe this or not. :dunno:

The Golf 5 GTi had a MP and the G6 GTI has no MP but it does have a SP. Not sure if this was done to keep the pricing competitive or not, but at R340k for the G6 GTi and R250k for the G5 GTI, I assume they just ripping everyone off as usual. I doubt the pricing of the cars will drop should MP be offered as an optional extra.

Is MP - included in sales price - an uniquely South African thing? Been reading XBimmers forum a lot - mainly USA and UK posts - and I may have gotten the idea that over there it may not always be necessarily included. Will keep a watchful eye now for when I read about it again. Also - what would be the difference between a "Service Plan" and a "Maintenance Plan"? If a monetary value can be supplied by the manufacturer - bear in mind that the customer pays the whole amount upfront - then the money theoretically gathers interest for the creditor who received it - which they may argue compensates for the annual increase in hourly labour rates and/or materials/spare parts. Refund should thus include the interest...a matter then for the bean counters - if one could get an honest answer. Also - I got the idea from my Audi days that these plans may be administered by 3'rd party insurers - in stead of the manufacturers themselves - but I stand to be corrected. However I do not think that this "administrative hassle" would be offered by the manufacturer without a healthy profit margin. Mercedes I know have a "staggered" plan; colleague of mine bought a Passat - was advised by Dealer Principal not to take the optional MP as service costs of "big" VW's are less than the smaller ones - did not have any troubles in the 5 years he had the vehicle and laughed all the way to the bank...best of luck and support wished with your ongoing battle though.:fencelook:
