So beautiful!
Depends entirely on the seller.
That could be a R150k car quite easily.

I know of a featured one that will be up for sale soon for R250k.

:tease: Which one is it and who does it belong to? Let me guess, is it Faisel's?

Honestly speaking, I agree with all who wrote that a mint, original 325is is worth every penny. I also agree that I'd rather pay R100k+ for one that requires very little to no work - after purchase.

Since last July, I've been chasing this elusive beast. And as the saying goes: "Close, but no bacon." :bangdesk:

Every IS I came across had a varying set of issues. If it wasn't the dreadful code 3 or AAPV status, it was the ghastly lack of originality and the
oh-so-common random replacement of original parts with anything from other series BMW parts to any other abomination called "a better alternative" you can think of. :argh:

Oh BMW gods and E30 angels, help me find a holy 325IS.

Definatly not one of mine

Those that have always happy with climbing values
Those that looking always complaining and when they get one join the first lot
Still one of the nicest cars to drive and just look at still draws the biggest crowds where ever you go from young to old .
I suppose alot of 325is owners just re living our youth:=)::=):

Trying to buy and fit original parts as much as possible. With the car being 24 years old (May 1990) assembled in Germany according to its records it has undergone an engine overall and received a respray. I have passed the R150K mark a long time ago and am still replacing, repairing, etc. Will only sell for R200K, a price I doubt will be paid this side...

The inflated value of these cars is pretty simple economics. It has less to do with the engineering or competence of the car, and rather just supply vs demand.

There is huge demand for clean examples, relative to the extremely limited supply. As such, the prices are sky high.

The reason for the demand is a separate debate, but whether or not it appears irrational to you doesn't change the fact that there is sufficient demand in the market to push these prices to insane levels. If there isn't, then there simply won't be any cars changing hands, and anyone who wants to make actually make a sale will have to price lower.

E30 325is, what a legend!, I was privileged to own a clean example for 7 years, in the years I own it I only put on 30000km, my prized treasure and dream car. Calypso Red in colour, original and clean interior with no tears or cracks on the dash. Paid R75k in 2004, sold it in 2011 for R120000, will post some pics. That is 1 car I regret selling and sadly I know it is a car that I cannot replace considering the way the demand it driving the price... if there is a car that should go back into production it should definitely be the e30 325i and even more desirable, the IS. I read somewhere that Jaguar is running a small/limited production run of the legendary e-type, this BMW should consider for the 325IS, they would sell and sell quick.

I see this car is parked next to an equally pristine Is. Lucky owner:thumbs:

So that takes his collection to 3 Is's.

Your friend is also my friend

If only our fellow fanatics were introduced to his collection including his CSL. :joy:
A true fanatic.

Okay! Seeing that I'm out of options here, I'm inclined to ask what most of you might call a "silly question". :sorry:

But, where on South African earth DO YOU FIND A PRISTINE 325is?

Where?

Can you get there by car or plane? Or do you need something like a camel because the car is stored that far away from civilization?

Rather find a haystack first, then look for the needle :roflol:

At this point, I'm afraid it seems the donkey ate the bloody thing - along with the needle. :fishwack:

Personal preferences are not debatable and by the looks of things, splintheter doesn't mind paying the asking price provided the car is clean, so the fact that the car is old and not value for money is not important to him.

For me the IS is an important part of SA motoring history, and having watched Deon Joubert racing them when I was 12, I have always lusted after one. I don't want to look back and regret not having had one, when I had the chance. I agree they are overpriced for "what they are" , but that is counter balanced by the fact that if it's trully in good condition and you maintain it irrespective of cost you will get your money back.

I reckon we close the can worms I opened now :D:D

Deon said that the 1 M reminded him of the e30 racing.
Now the 1 M is a car keeping up with times, the 325is is a legend...Respect it and leave it there

If anyone wants to pay 150k + for a neat completely original....drop me pm
I can organise and make a 50k profit

Rhett, 325is is a collectors to those who value
135i more value for money in today's world.
So, if I were able to collect cars, 325is would definitely be a project.

Its just that, the 325is is too slow to drive in 2014.

A base spec 2014 polo yanks out about 50 -60kw.
2014 F30 316i is around the 100kw mark
How on earth is a 145kw car "slow" in comparison? Hell, even an old E30 325i is pretty sprightly given it's power to weight ratio.
Sure, and old car is not going to be as refined as a new one, but slow? nahh. We have little 0.9l 50kw cars that keep up with 2014 traffic just fine.

LOL
325is looks like a beast, sounds rough...But then you get a Fiesta ST running away from it...or a Polo GTi 1.4

325is is slow today.
Maybe if you driving a Tata you will find it fast:rollsmile:
