Saw this IS in the flesh at Killarney's BMW day - Tell you guys, I ended up starring at the car almost drooling all over it:fencelook:

The seats were redone BUT It looks great. With Original Leather in perfect condition, you'd be looking at R180k+

E30 prices are insame ATM
I remember there was a guy with an original red shadowline from durbanville who wanted R250k.

A 4 Door 325i now averages the R50-60k mark so its expected that a buyer will pay R80-R100k more for an IS...pricing on these have been discussed so many times on the e30 forum its crazy and yet theres a market that keeps the prices going North.

funny how a few years ago you could sell your new millenium tazz and buy a 325is:rollsmile:

Bud as I say it looks good on the exterior.

On closer look you will see body putty on all doors, but that's minor until you look underneath and you can see it's had a major left hand smash and the floor underneath is also cracked

Also there are a few bushes that have been fitted incorrectly

Looking underneath a car is often a good way to tell... to be honest.. settle for a few Parking lot dings and whatnot but the underneath needs to be right and straight. It needs to be honest. I pqid 40k for my ex 325i back in 2006... was a doctors car... at that time i paid just a bit much for the car..maybe 5k too much etc... so right now i can understand a d3cent honest unmolested one being well over 50k. Its strange... e28s are way rareer and more scarce.. only sold here for about 3.5yrs.. yet they arent fetching e30 money yet... but then there arent really any decent ones for sale very often...

,so much accident damage, bushes installed wrong, spot welds etc

In owners defence I don't think he has looked under it ever.

Oh well......

Which is why I pretty much gave up on searching for an iS long ago.

99% of them are scrap heaps below the shiny paintwork, huge wheels, 2.9 conversions, covered up interior, scull gearknobs, massive speakers, and disco imitating radios..... And then the retarded sellers advertise as "stock standard"

I guess this is proof enough that spinning is a good thing, because there are so many nice iS's left:fencelook:

This looks like my cousin's ex car he sold back in 2006. If it is, the car was in serious front smash. To be fair, it was "saved" from a code 3 status and all parts were ordered from BMW. He sold it to a guy that owned a bakery in the southern suburbs who drove it for a while....then it just vanished from our roads.

You forgot about the TNT headers, re-profiled cams (they saw you liked cams so much they threw and extra one in just cause) and the Midas brand momo steering wheel.....all stock standard of course

Oh and regarding spinning.... in before the lock.....

I have been an i.s fan from schoolboy days...just like most of you on this thread.

I would pay 55k-70k for an i.s
If it has a built turbo conv. with reliability, 90k-120k.
Because I understand the VALUE OF MONEY.....

I had the opportunity to buy a black i.s, chrome m3 wheels...everything perfect...
55k in 2009 > If I knew people would buy it from me in 2014 for 120k upward....
I would have used those credit cards to get it!!!!

325IS is a looker and will always hold great memory(whop poppopopopopop )...but its such an old car NOW.
If you want a uniqu e30 bmw, find one of the three imported M3's

and that nonsense of 300k for a 333i....what cant a 135i do that a 333i can beside the dogleg gearbox.

DES7 the 325is is the one and only panty dropper, a 333i in good nik is super super rare, so you pay for the rare value.

Pull up to any car show in a 135i and no one bats an eye but pull up in a clean IS or 333i and you have a crowd around it

All comes down to what you Value
If someone values getting the attention from the people or street cred.
Holla with the IS.:=):

But for me, its all about the engineering and capability.

I did mean 135i in comparison to 80s bmw 333i
Not 335 bud.

Personal preferences are not debatable and by the looks of things, splintheter doesn't mind paying the asking price provided the car is clean, so the fact that the car is old and not value for money is not important to him.

Or.get.an e28 which is essentially a stretched out e30. I owned a e30 for 3yrs. E28 is essentially the same thing...just more roomy

You are right.

Its a win-win situation.

Its important not to confuse real collectors item value with the wrong street cred... a "gusheshe" as its often called.locally is very popular due to all the spinning etc in the townships and other gatherings etc... to this person its like a 20k or 25k car. Its valued because of its spinning reputation... this itself is very different to the true bmw 80s heritage value and the homologation significance...etc etc...big difference i think... another thing ive personally.experienced th3se old.cars their parrts are by no means cheap.lots of the parts are.ex germany and often what they call..nett items..not discountable...so a e30 that has been PROPERLY maintained and or Restored and is running perfectly...its no cheap.or.easy feet... part of the reason why the "examples" of 80s bmws are starting to.fetch large dollar...

These two comments clearly show that you infact don't understand the passion of true BMW love. The value is in the heritage, speciality and pedigree of the 325iS and 333i.

And the difference between a 135i and a 333i? I can go right now at 8.23pm and buy 100 identical 135's but it could take you years to find a real unmolested original 333i.

The 333i and the 325iS are homologation specials made only for the SA market, how can you compare that to a 135? 135s are selling by the hundreds of thousands. 333s are individual numbered!

A polo vivo also has 4 wheels and an engine, so does a Ferrari F430 scuderia- why is one worth 15 times as much?

Excellent point raised Rhett:bravo:

It is worth as much as someone in Lenasia is willing to pay for it.:fencelook:

I dont know if they have alarms going off there whenever one of these come up for sale, or what the hell, but whenever I called for an iS the response was always:

"Sorry, but someone from Lenz just bought it"
I think it's worth noting that there are probably more 325is's in Laudium than Lenasia:=):

For me the IS is an important part of SA motoring history, and having watched Deon Joubert racing them when I was 12, I have always lusted after one. I don't want to look back and regret not having had one, when I had the chance. I agree they are overpriced for "what they are" , but that is counter balanced by the fact that if it's trully in good condition and you maintain it irrespective of cost you will get your money back.

I reckon we close the can worms I opened now :D:D
