South African service delivery...Hurry up and wait.

Sorry Chef, i can imagine the frustration you are felling.

I think the parts will come in via private courier, BMW to BMW.

I ordered a set of retrofit lights from BMW, courier from Germany took 10 working days (2 weeks)... :fencelook:

Correct, they estimate between 10 and 15 working days for delivery. As my order is large, it may be the latter. But this already goes into closing time for the repairer (Dent Doc BB) and so my car won't be going in until next year.

Might be a bitch to find, but doesn't a scrapyard like beemows maybe have a second hand bumper you can take in for a respray and fit yourself?

Sorry about your ride Chef.

As stated above, maybe you can get a second hand bumper from some place and ask Dent Doc BB to spray it and drive around in that for the time being.

If that's not feasible, then sorry mate but you'll be looking at alternative transport for the Dec period. Have it garaged. It will leave you with egg on face driving around with a bumped car. Major (negative)advert to 'would be buyers' and 'secret admirers'.

You are between a stone and an anvil. Hard decision to make.

Extra costs which I won't be refunded for. I'd rather wait and have it done properly.

I can't garage it. I need the car running. Would-be-admirers will have to keep their eyes closed until next year :fencelook:

Then you didn't see me because I was nowhere near Malibongwe yesterday :slow:

But thanks for telling me my car doesn't look too bad. Makes me feel better

I think I found two OEM headlights for half the price of one :cartel:

Hi, I just saw your predicament and I was almost in the same situation recently with my E90 where a Citi Golf jump a stop street and I couldn't stop in time. I hit the VW and my damage was estimated at R154K and the insurance wrote off the car. In the end I had to claim from my insurance as his insurance took too long to settle under 3rd party.

I got myself a F30 but then a guy called me that bought my old car from Auction Nation for R60K and then only paid R18K for the repairs that the insurance said will cost R154K. In the end I learnt that if you look around then you will get much better deals to repair the car. I attached a pic of my damage that I got written off for.

On the other hand I did get a better ride so that should be another option to consider as you will always feel that you drive a car that was in an accident.

Eish jammer Vernon :sorry:

Yeah it can be done for cheaper but availability of 5 series pirate/secondhand parts is almost non-existent. The car won't be written off. It's definitely getting repaired, so it might as well get done with new parts.

It's just the wait that's killing me and having no other car to drive around in, so the banged-up 5er is on the roads.

What is wrong with driving a car that has had an accident, obviously not a write off that was fixed, just bumper bash or something? If your chic broke her arm or leg would you get a new one, cause you know she has had an accident?:rollsmile:

Chef this whole thing just suchs hope you get it sorted.

Chef
what did you do to secure the damaged body parts to be able to drive around.
I would have suggested "Mach-Tape", as used by aviation technicians, tough aluminium tape, capable of remaining stuck even at 300kts

The car isn't being held together with anything. The broken pieces are off, and the rest sits fine as is.

Ya that doesn't look like 150k of damage.... mine was written off for 95k damage and was far worse than that. Airbags deployed aswell.
