I popped my racing cherry this weekend at Drag Wars held at Tarlton. The car is still plagued with clutch issues so I kept the boost at 20psi, which with the mix that was in the tank was good for about ~530 Whp.
On my arrival emotions ranged from fear, excitement and nervousness. Shortly after the drivers briefing I lined up for my first ever run. I had no idea how to do a burnout in a rwd car so I just lined up. I staged built up the rpm, green light and.... bogged. Traction control was still on :withStu::crazylaugh:
My second run didn't go any better, after lighting up the tires through first and second I short shifted into third and fell out of boost. When the turbo did eventually spool it lit the tires up again and put me sideways doing about 130km/h. Somehow I got it back in a straight line :tiptoe:.
After that I almost called it quits. But after the car cooled down I decided to line up again. From there on things went better. I decided a burnout, however small, is definitely necessary. Eventually it turned out that it would not be my clutch that would prevent me from putting up any kind of competitive time but traction. The clutch held up for the whole event. I ran about 8 times and I launched from 5k rpm every time, and no slipping from the clutch. But as I said traction was my biggest issue, launches were ok but wheel spin through second and most of third was killing me.
By no means am I blaming the car, I am well aware that my driving skill, or lack thereof leaves much to be desired. But hey you gotta start somewhere.
My best time for the day ended up a 13.04s exit speed did not register on that run but on other runs they were all around the high 180's to low 190's. 60ft times were all around around 2.3-2.6s.
I'm now focusing on replacing the clutch and then i want to do some suspension and drive train mods to see if I can start putting the power down more effectively.
I also want to try a few 1km runs at ODI.
