Taking up where Jeff finished off.

So she spent the day at SMG...propshaft coupling turned out to be diff bushing... ex Germany14 days waiting period. I call bull on this. It is a standard E39 part:argh: But cheaper than doing the propshaft.

And the fuel level senders I wanted them to do as I just didn't want to do it myself... R9,900 :roflol: Too remove the back seat and change out two parts of a grand each. Some sob story I will get to the bottom of tomorrow.

Anyway picking up tomorrow.

Spraying should happen soon at least.

Went for an M fix in the Coupe to console myself. Such a different philosophy between the MCoupe and M5. MCoupe would thrill little children... the M5 would eat them.

Best of luck mate :)
Bit weird about the diff bushings vs. propshaft though... please ask them to have a look at the coupling - AFAIK it is a little cracked. OEM part is around R1500 from what I last remember.

There's still a job card that was created at SMG for the fuel senders on the system with the M5's VIN attached so no idea where an almost R10k bill comes from :thumbdo:

Almost time to go sideways

All very strange. I will be there this morning when they pick me up. I double checked the senders and it is def two parts and can be bought excluding the fuel pump. Anyway going to talk to them and see what is up.

R9964.77 for the fuel senders... they were adamant that that is what needs to be done. So I had a peak under the back seat with my trusty multi-meter... right side is working fine... rocked the car and resistance changed as the fuel sloshed around and was within the expected ohms. Checked the left one and no circuit at all. Had it out and looks like the resistor is done for. 15 minutes to take it out and refit... So did some checking and if one is not functioning then the guage reads empty. So end of the day it is only the left side that needs changing... DIY R1304.90. Stealers... Ordering the part at Forsdicks.

:thumbdo: To SMG.

Love my M5:)

Sorry mate, forgot to mention I was there. I was reasonably annoyed anyway.

Fuel sender arrived yesterday and 15 minutes it was in and fuel guage wekking.

takkled the wing mirror... Well... the garage door removed it for me and showed me it had been reattached in a blou draad fix. so looking for a replacement mirror.

And apparently the M5 shoots flames out the back:biglol: Not sure if it should... not sure if I would fix it if it shouldn,t:fencelook:

Clownshoe's E39 M5 Restoration Project

Morning guys!

Well this morning Jeanre and I collected Clownshoe's E39 M5 from him to do the spraywork on the front end.

Having worked intimately on the car whilst still in Jeff's care we knew the condition of the car and we knew that whilst the rest of the body was not too bad the front end needed some serious love.

The issues raised in no order:

- Bad Paint Match, the front looks Ox Blood Red whilst the rest of the car is original BMW Paint.
- Multiple Stone Chips
- Damage near the foglight
- Stone Chipped Fenders
- Clear Coat Failure on the mirrors

All of the above is being repaired today, we have also ordered a new set of foglights from our JHB Supplier as well as a new front badge to finish off the re-spray.

The exhaust note on this is something I remember from when we detailed it for Jeff, what a glorious sound! :joy:

I suspect the results will be nothing short of amazing on this beautiful car!

Hi Mike
A quick question, (my wife actually asked me), what colour primer does one normally use on a red car?

Look forward to seeing your work Mike. But like I always say in the flesh is what counts :).
