what i did to my Coupe was get black double sided tape, cut it out and place it over the switch, when the door closes it then pushes the switch that extra bit so you dont have to replace the switch and i havent had a problem since.
i suppose you could even put something on the lock on the door itself to get it to contact.
the problem is the switch wears over time and doesnt make contact, this little fix pushes it that little further.
best of all you dont see the tape.

When u say it will move up, should it move up completely?
your window needs to be fully up for it to move, close it fully then push the sensor/button then your window will move that little bit. if your window is down that sensor will have no affect.
like Wykid said- its to seal the framless window against the rubber when closing the door.
