Here's one for you...

Ask Jandre about his experience... Changed oil to different than what he normally used... sudden oil usage, changed back to what normally uses... no more oil loss... I think
My car was serviced 2,600km ago, on 89,400, now on 92,000,
so my oil light came on, checked and the level was so low I had to add a full liter of oil.(castrol slz i think.... )
I called up bmw to ask what the hell, but was told and I quote: " It's normal for an E46 to use up to a pint of oil every 1,000km driven" :dropjaw:
Listen man, I drive a bmw, not a flippen ford, how the hell can be ok to use 500ml over 1000km?????
So the mechanic told me, it's just so, I told him in 3 and a half years I have NEVER had to add oil to my car between services,
now just 2,600km after the last service my car has used a liter of oil??? :cursin:
I was then told that I must remember that my car has done 90,000km and it's normal... WTF !!!!!

I think it is a bull story, they probably did not fill the oil properly, when they serviced the car, drive the car another 500km's and check if there is any oil loss, or they made a stuff up with your service. Not even the M uses any oil between services.

BMW's tolerances are 1l per 1000miles...which to me is excessive but as stated in this thread its so they don't have to pay out to have the engine checked as to why its using so much oil....My E36 doesn't use anything between services.I never have to top it up although I do regularly check it.

Here's an update...
so my oil light keeps coming on(yellow) for about 3-5 seconds, then goes off again,
this happens even while driving the car, but the oil level is correct.
So I called bmw, seems my oil level sensor is "moertoe" or FUBAR!!! :cursin:
They are charging R2200 without vat and fitment for it :censored: :banghead: :cursin:
I then spoke to one of the mechanics I know who works there,
I am going to his house on saturday, he will take it out, clean it in petrol,
refit it, and then we will see if that solves the problem.
Will let you all know what happens.

As jy nie regkom met die BMW mech nie dan moet jy maar beemows toe gaan, dink hulle charge darm net R850 vir 'n nuwe sensor wat oraait is darm :)

So I'm going there,(to the mechanic) tomorrow.
If the man treats me nice and my baby nicer, and fixes her up,
then I will let you know. :thumb: BUT...!!!
BUT, if he F_cks me around, then I will have to "Skiet die bliksem!!"
Might have to call on you Sankekur, remember your rear seats can fold forward,
so more bootspace... :mmm:

My 528i never used a drop of oil for about 9000km Since I bought it. Recently I changed the oil and filter and filled with Castrol Edge fully synthetic 5w40 (about R 660) and now only 1000km later I need to add about 500ml of oil? Could I add maybe shell helix 5w40 or would that be bad? Why the sudden oil usage?
