What happened with Sandton Auto?

Iv had the exact opposite experience..

I sent my m3 to alberante for a complete respray, they took 3months and I got my car back with missing parts, bad workmansship. I think my bumper and bonnet got sprayed 4times by them... They were the reason I eventually got fed up with my m3 and sold it...


As for sandton auto, I get good customer service. always helpful and willing to assist. I work in cresta and they have dropped and fetched me a few times already when other dealers didn't want to travel more then 15km away.

Why you going all the way to BMW the glen, is that not like insanely far for you.. Its a block from my house though

I have to agree with Ceader Isle Auto.
Damn good service...Took my car there instead of the BMW dealer I was working for.
Drove in day before Xmas, greeted by name, coffee handed to me, welkomed by the Workshop Manager.
Then, after the scope of work was discussed and a collection time agreed apon, I received calls every hour or so to update the progress.
one hour before I was due to collect I received a call from the service advisor to say they had found an issue with the Wishbones and were sending to midrand to collect a set. Could I please collect at 2:00PM and not 12:00.

Understand that the dealership had said they were closing at 12:00 as the next day was a holliday!!! Could not believe their service.
Anyway, having met and exceeded my expectations, I arrive at 14;00 to be told the car is ready.

1) All work agreed apon done.
2) Wishbones replaced with shiny new ones (Magic Carpet ride is back)
3) Informed they replaced my indicator stalk as they found a rattle inside, new bonnet shocks fitted (Never asked for) WOW.
4) Told Tony from ZF had looked at the gearbox values and found issue with the clutch in the auto box. He had aplolgised that he could not attend to it and that he had noted my car had less than 1000 km's left on Motorplan. He had requested to see the car early in the new year.
5) Ceader Isle had done a battery test and ordered a new battery. (Fitted Jan)

So in January, ZF replaced the gearbox at a cost to plan of R 68 000,00. Understand that after 100 000 km's (my 530i was on 139012 km's) Motorplan only pays half, ZF the other half.

Well, i deal with BMW in Boksburg "Auto Alpina Boksburg" So if dont mind coming to the east rand then you will be fine. They are awesome. I will only use them. I have been invited to BMW feedback meetings before and Boksburg is the best. I just bough my new car last month.

Ok I found a BMW dealer with even better service than SMG Cape Town, and that was Paarlberg BMW

I had a Misfire problem and SMG could not help or diagnose it for me that day and I had to make a booking the next day because they are so busy. It’s understandable and acceptable
So I phoned Paarlberg BMW and I went there and they diagnosed it while I waited. Obviously they have a more personalized service because who is prepared to drive R150 to R200 petrol all the way there and for that reason they are not that busy. So I went there and computer showed no faults but then the guy went old school and monitored the fuel pressure and it was bleeding away. Injectors were leaking. Don’t know which ones so replaced all six the next day and oil change while I wait (it was worth it driving there and leaving it in a mechanic’s hands that know what they are doing)
Then I had a cold start hunting problem. So I decide to give SMG a try and left the car there and after 3 days the workshop Foreman Gavin tells me it’s normal because the computer shows no errors. Luckily other workshop Foreman A very good one Johannes told me it’s not normal and he will look in to it and replaced the spark plugs because they were burnt badly due to over fuelling. Next morning the problem was still there. At least that mechanic found something, so I won’t shoot them down and I told them I don’t ever want to deal with Gavin again rather give me Johannes, so I took it to Paarlberg and they went old school again and decided to measure the fuel pressure again and it was too high and that’s probably the cause of them packing up in the first place( Ya Ya Ya Gavin at SMG tells me its normal !!! He should get his hands dirty and start learning the old way). They replaced the regulator/filter that is one unit of R4000 in the tank. Let’s see how it goes. It’s difficult if the computer does not give you any errors and you have to find the problem in conventional way and that’s when you need a good mechanic, and you as person have to have some patience.
10 out of 10 for Paarl berg BMW and thanks to O’Brian

gave my car in for the last week to clearwater due to the aircon being noisy and rough since summer started..they found the engine mountings worn and did the belt and pulleys, also told them to look at the turbo with the clip I posted up here http://www.bmwfanatics.co.za/showthread.php?tid=35898&page=4 and a flutter on the idle when cold (I had asked Northcliff auto to look at the flutter and turbo and they found nothing, twice)..they found the turbo was worn and a boost leak, so new turbo in and flutter on cold idle disappeared..I was a lil concerned as I always idle the car on before switching off and when starting, so I told them this and they did the oil seperator/breather as well..all done in 4 days so I'm quite happy that they actually listen and check things unlike alota dealers who'll tell you they can't hear anything and return the car to you :thumbs:
