Hi NBN I really don't know for sure if the seller is a fellow fanatic. You know what seems to be making this whole thing a lot more complicated is that this was a private to private sale no.1,NBN said:I hope you take this guy to court. That analysis should be proof enough that you were sold a lemon.
Do you know if this car was bought from a Fanatic? Time to possibly name and start shaming.
MedicN54 said:The car was bought from a gentleman by the name of Sherwin William's who apparently owns William's engine rebuilders in Cape Town. I'm not sure if he is a member of this forum.

William rebuilt the motor and knew theres some stuff not good on the rebuild, maybe crank had issues etc. He then threw in some thicker oil to try and mitigate the issues. Sold the car to get it off his hands.
From the website, it seems he's been doing a good few x35 BMW's. I'm pretty sure he knew something was fishy on the rebuild.
Place also looks dodgy AF.
Anyone on here that knows this William dude?
I really hope you get this resolved with the finance house. Not nice to get innocently taken for a ride!

Personally, I would've given the car back and walked away. I probably wouldn't have even spoken much after those few initial messages.. You have a lot more tolerance than I.
N54's are temperamental at the best of times, having a car where the previous owner doesn't even know the wrong oil was used, is a huge alarm bell for me.. Who knows what else could go wrong further down the line, due to negligence/ignorance..? Just know that with your current arrangement, you've now exhausted your right to return the car, should something else crop up.
That being said, it's your car and your money.. If you're happy, that's what counts.. R20k is a small amount when you take into account the N54 and its potential issues, so I just hope you have done your homework, extensively.
Good luck.
