On the outside of the filter there's silver filings, on the inside of the oil filter it's copper coloured filings.

Based on your previous posts it doesn't look like you drove the car hard before the oil got up to temperature and you also mentioned how you let the car cool off. So could it be that someone sold you a lemon?

What's your plan of action? Have you contacted the dealership you got the car from? If the car is financed etc, will they assist you in returning the car etc etc?

I have seemed advices but it's not going to be possible simply because of the time frame that has lapsed since taking delivery of the car around the 23rd of November 2019. Cool off period has apparently lapsed as per the CPA. It's a pity I never drove it a lot because firstly I'm a paramedic so I spend a lot of time at work and also, I work very odd hours. When i collected the car in Port Elizabeth, I went straight to EL I think the fastest I went to was 140km/h but fortunately there was no engine noises and stuff. One thing though is that in Port Elizabeth that day, it was super hot outside and I did 2 WOT runs, changed at 6200rpm, 2nd and 3rd gear pull only. The oil temp gauge went up quickly and hit limp mode. I have posted that issue on the forum too. I have contacted the finance house. The gentleman dealing with the legal side of things is on leave until next week Monday.

Nevertheless I work in Port Alfred but my family is in E.L. I dropped the car off at home in E.L and went to work. I hardly drove the car. I also bougbt the OBD cable and downloaded MHD and used it for diagnostics purposes. I had a goal in mind with this car so I didn't use it much because I wanted to get everything I needed to get to my goal but now this.

Looks like the only option I have is to fix the problem and cut my losses. I tried phoning the owner to ask if he could assist me with this but he has not been answering. The gentleman who deals with legal matters at the financial institution is on leave until Monday.
Nevertheless it is all good I will just have to sit down nicely with this and work through it. I will make decisions once I have stripped the motor.

Eish bud, I hope you get it sorted soon and that it isnt a major repair.

Let me know if you need any help from Jhb, like checking parts for you etc, im in the east rand, so if you find anything on this side, i am more than able to assist if you require.

Hi Jeremy , thank you so much bud. I will definitely be needing all the help I can get. There's virtually nothing here in East London. I'm going to strip in next week when I have the chance to get a break from work. I really appreciate the support... speechless. I'm looking forward to making the best of this.

I'm thinking of just getting another crank one time sometimes engineering work can cost more than getting a good used one. Also if the crank is that bad I would not be comfy with a cut crank. With the luck that I have had now, I don't want to take any unnecessary risks.

The upside to keeping your current crank is the peace of mind in knowing exactly what is in your motor...albeit peace of mind does come at a cost sometimes.

All the best, hope you get it sorted.

Why not wait until Monday to hear from the finance house legal department.

If the previous owner doesn't answer your calls, maybe you need to pay him an unexpected visit at home, where im assuming you collected the car...

Without knowing facts, it does look like you were sold a lemon, I'm not a vindictive person, but i wouldn't let the previous owner get away with this so easily

Hallo, hope you get it sorted, with my personal experience regarding rebuild, this would be my advise.
Strip motor completely, Send Pistons, block rods and crank to a reputable engineering shop to measure all for you. Rods should still be safe if it was not driven for long with the bearing failure, but possible it has to be resized or replaced. Depending on your mileage/regular services with correct oil and all pistons and block should still be fine, Crank might need to be cut or replaced, I would not buy a second hand one for the main reason, you would not know if the crank fell or ..... up untill you had it on a bench, tested for this. Rather cut, if it does not need to go more than 20 Thou you should still be safe with grinding the crank. Use new bolts on the rods, DO NOT USE THE OLD ONES, peterAEW here on the forum might also have good advice on the rebuild.

Good day fanatics

I've been advised to send the oil for Blackstone analysis along with stripping to physically check the extent. The stripping will only be able to be done in next week sometime. I have sent the oil for analysis and will be getting the report tomorrow. However I thought I'd post some pics of the oil I sent

Sad to say, seems like the previous owner knew something was up, threw in thick oil to 'slow' the effect of deterioration and sold the car.

I hope I am wrong but that is how it looks from the outside looking in, especially seeing as though this car was hardly driven, by your admission.
