Vibration Dampener Oil Leak

Good day Fanatics

My car (E90 320D LCI) went for a oil change and dampener replace yesterday at a Dealership.
This morning after fitting my new wheels, the mechanic at the alignment calls me closer and tells me the car is leaking oil.

I phoned the dealership and they told me to bring the car back. I immediately drove to the dealership and they proceeded to check for the oil leak.

It appears that the new vibration dampener isn't sealing properly on the old seal.
They told me the part will only be available on Tuesday and that I should come back with my car to get the seal replaced by them on Tuesday.

I would like to know what can go wrong driving the vehicle like this and what are your guys thoughts about this?

As I don't know what you drive, I cannot comment on your exact issue.. I can however tell you that I had the Vibration dampener replaced on my 530d recently, and as far as I know, it does not act as a seal / or seal support... It does however bolt directly on to the crank, so I can only assume your crank seal is leaking.

I'm sure we'll get better input from the more experienced guys.

Thank I edited my post to show the details of the car.

If that is the case how can my crank seal start to leak when it didn't before the dampener replacement took place, assuming it the dampener doesn't act as a seal or support.

Lets hope the experienced guys can help me with advice.

It simply bolts on, like a pulley does.. Let's hope they did not damage the Crank seal / bearing.

I see thank you.

If they damaged it, would they need to replace it on their costs?
How does one prove it?

Lets not get too excited, I have no bases for my comment, just thinking out loud.

Give them a chance, it might be something silly.

Where did you service the car?

How much oil is it leaking, and what is the distribution like?

This picture was taken this morning (less than a day since the service), car had no leaks before the service at them.

Lets hope the fanatics can shed some light.
I'm just frustrated at the fact that they give the car back with a new oil leak.
One spends allot of money to have it done at Dealerships where you expect top notch work but then this happens.

Shit man, that does not look good. Don't drive the car too much, not only because you are leaking oil, but also as the seal can fail.

Take many photo's, speak to the service manager, stand your ground.

The fact that you reported the leak upon discovery is a good start.

In fact, phone the service center right now and report the damage officially. Who you spoke to, when and time....

Just to confirm, the Service Center is the dealership at which I had the work done?
I need to drive 500 Km's this weekend.
I phoned the service manager immediately after the photo was taken, took the car there and they had look at it.
The service manager said I can drive the car like this just that I should put some newspaper on the garage floor where my car stands and top up the oil if needed.
And bring the car back on Tuesday and we can replace the seal.

"Just to confirm, the Service Center is the dealership at which I had the work done?" Yes sir.

"The service manager said I can drive the car like this just that I should put some newspaper on the garage floor where my car stands and top up the oil if needed." OK :skit:

Please check the oil often.. as that's not a leak I would be driving around with, but I understand your situation.

Good luck.

Thank you for the advice. Will monitor it closely on the iDrive.

Found an alternative means of transport for the weekend, thus the car is just going to stand in the garage until the Dealership can fix it.

I did a bit of research and as suggested it appears to be more the crankshaft seal that will cause the leak than the dampener pulley.

Can someone perhaps shed some light on these findings.

Dude, did you sort your car out?

Well I took it back to the dealership and they replaced the crankshaft seal if i'm not mistaken. Checked the oil frequently and cant see any oil loss.

Haven't had the car on the lift yet to do a visual inspection for leaks.
