520D 2009 oil leak

Hey guys. Having a major problem here. Had a bad oil leak last year. Took it to my mechanic and he fixed it. It was the rear main seal. That was in early November. Car didn’t leak after that. However, in Feb it started leaking again. Very little. And about 3 weeks ago it started getting worse. It’s definitely an engine oil leak, confirmed because my oil is low. Not sure what it could be. Any good mech or workshop in Durban (preferably around overport/springfield) that’ll do a good job without breaking the bank?

If it is the rear main again do yourself a favour and buy it from the agents. I have never had any joy from aftermarket rear main seals and its such a mission to change that it warrants paying the dealer parts tax.

I am dealing with the same issue on my e60 520d LCI. Not sure what your mileage is but mine is +/-300k km. My oil leak is coming from a failing sump gasket (which is quite an excessive and expensive job because the sub-frame needs to be dropped) and oil filter housing gasket. Not sure how it is with other BMW's but jeez I've had fun with the gaskets from factory on this car.

Let us know if you find out what the cause of the oil leak is.

Sorted it out. RM Auto tech are amazing people to work with. Really a good choice to go with them, and I’d recommend them to anyone. They are an excellent team, and are definitely my go to from now on.

The oil filter housing was leaking, and when they opened it up my tension belt was also damaged. They really did an amazing job. You won’t go wrong with them.

Ahh okay, I see our oil leak diagnosis was similar... Thanks for mentioning your extremely pleasant experience with them. Do you mind sharing how much parts + labour was for the oil filter housing specifically.

By tension belt are you referring to the serpentine belt (part number 11288574958)?
