Urgent 330i exhaust advice

Guys, very urgent, no time to search, car is stripped and being worked on as we speak.
I put in the 328 manifolds yesterday, ran 57mm piping and replaced the middle cats with a 400mm silencer.
I decided to complete the whole system, so I was advised to complete the piping dual 57mm, replace the little 200mm OEM box with a 300mm silencer and keep the back box original.
My thing is: by keeping the OEM back box, am I defeating the purpose of a free flow cos it’s too restrictive ?

I want to keep as quiet but also have a bit of a deeper tone without being too intrusive in the cabin.
Should I remove the back box as well ? I don’t want it too loud.
Please can I have your views asap so I can tell Ralf at Speedway.

I would say replace the rear box with a bigger freeflow box, but i am no E46 expert. I plan to do the same with mine hopefully end of this month.

I dont see you loosing any power with the rear box in place with that setup... if you want more sound then replace it...

Thanks but will I gain some power by replacing it, or will replacing it just make it louder.

It will just make it louder

If you had long tube headers and a full mandrel bent system there might be some merit in replacing the back box...

Thanks buddy. I just thought that a free flow back box will be less restrictive.

KEEP IT! It will be VERY LOUD if you replace it! Annoyingly loud. Do the whole system but keep the back box. Not much to gain. In my research to do a full system I have been advised against it as it will drone and the OEM box is actually better than the replacement boxes (can't be improved on).

Change the Exhaust tips if you want a better look

Thanks Chris. That is exactly what I asked Ralf to do.

Oh and I would keep the stock chrome tips if I were you. I think they look good as they are imo.

OK....from my side

Car arrived yesterday for replacement of existing "headers with CATS" to 328i headers, remove centre cats and replace with a 2-in-2-out box.

However.....some minor problems

1)the 328i headers had a different flange mounting (3 studs vs the 2 studs on the existing pipe)
2)Rush off to VIPER performance exhaust, and they don't have the 3 stud flange to fit the "new" headers from a 328i
3)So its purchase a complete set of flanges, cut the existing flange off the "new" headers and weld on the new set from VIPER.

at this point because of the delays, the car was only going to be finished after "knock-off" time.
We convinced YUBEN to leave the car overnight, and for us to replace the entire 50mm pipe with a 57mm pipe all the way to the rear box.
So I offered to drive YUBEN through to Weltevreden Park, but he opted for a shorter trip to be dropped off at the Rhodesfield Gautrain station (Just 2-3Km's from the shop)

So this morning the work continues, entire new 57mm pipe dual pipe manufactured, and to finish off a staggered (M3) look tailpieces fitted from DEMON exhausts

Picked up YUBEN from Rhodesfield Gautrain station again aroun 12h30.

Took some photo's and a first for "me" some video as well, which will be below (facebook video)

The sound was "AWESOME", but I will let YUBEN describe it to the forum when he has a moment, as he is ultimately more familiar with the before and after sound as well as the before and after power difference.

I must say the sound is fractionally louder, that's how I wanted it.
The response is tremendous. Low down it pulls much harder.
Very happy with it all round:thumbs:

Yuben suggested you get a x pipe install it will help to get the tone down a bit. Have done it on my 325ti it was very loud so asked TNT to install one after they installed a full system 2x 63mm yes i know now its to big but think you take your car to tnt they will no what to put on the car. Tom said he installed it decause of the blower on the car :blab:
