Sank the reason for build was to Decat and allow the engine to breathe through 57mm piping all the way.Sankekur said:This whole build confuses me a little.....if you are going to keep the stock backbox, why not just cut the cats out of the midsection and put on the 328i headers? Why build a whole new mid-section that poses no improvement over the stock mid-section?
Also in the second video is that steam or smoke? If its smoke :mmm:.
If its steam.......it is not a good idea at all to rev a cold motor like that.

I must say the sound is fractionally louder, that's how I wanted it.
The response is tremendous. Low down it pulls much harder.
Very happy with it all round:thumbs:
Yuben suggested you get a x pipe install it will help to get the tone down a bit. Have done it on my 325ti it was very loud so asked TNT to install one after they installed a full system 2x 63mm yes i know now its to big but think you take your car to tnt they will no what to put on the car. Tom said he installed it decause of the blower on the car :blab:

Mild steel. I've prefer it over stainless steel :fencelook:Gizmo said:One more question, did you go mild steel or stainless steel piping?

The reason for retaining the back box was solely my choice as I didn't want it to be too loud. At this juncture, that proved to be an error on my part.
In the second video, the car was already warm, the smoke you saw was the inner coating of the piping that was burning out:thumbs:
Out of interest, what size back box did Van Der Linde put on yours?

ggrobler said:For any performance exhaust system, some type of crossover connecting the two sides of a dual exhaust system is important because it acts to balance the two banks of the engine. The common H-style crossover is good at balancing sound pulses between the two halves, but does little to promote scavenging because the exhaust gases tend to follow the path of least resistance, which is straight through each pipe rather than taking the 90-degree turn through the H-pipe into the other half of the system. In an X-pipe system, however, where the two sides of the system intersect, the gasses have no choice but to intermingle as they pass through the junction. This promotes improved scavenging effects by smoothing out uneven exhaust pulses from the engine’s firing order. It also helps quiet down the exhaust, resulting in a mellower, less raspy tone. According to Magnaflow, the faster acceleration of the gasses through an X-pipe causes them to flow in a linear fashion parallel to the walls of the tubing rather than tumbling. This “laminar” flowing gas is much quieter than tumbling gas, resulting in an exhaust tone up to 8 decibels quieter than a traditional H-pipe.
Thanks bro for all the knowledge around the Xpipe.ggrobler said:YUBEN said:Hoping a 500mm long 2 in 2 out will work
Don't forget to install X Pipe will help with the loud drone in the car 2000rpm is the worse :yuck:
ChrisBrand said:KEEP IT! It will be VERY LOUD if you replace it! Annoyingly loud. Do the whole system but keep the back box. Not much to gain. In my research to do a full system I have been advised against it as it will drone and the OEM box is actually better than the replacement boxes (can't be improved on).
Change the Exhaust tips if you want a better look

Chris, just thought I'd share some feedback. The tone is amazing with the new back box. Not annoyingly loud as initally predicted. There is that nice deep tone low down and it gets quiet as stock from 3000rpm.
At cruising speeds between 120-140 you will not say that the exhaust is changed.
That's exactly how I wanted it.
