Looking and sounding good guys:thumbs: I was expecting a more tinny m3 sort of sound. It sounds a bit louder when idling and has a slightly deeper sound with less of a rasp:rollsmile: keen to see what sort of gains you getting out of it. I assume you getting a bit more low down torque?

Guys I was under the impression that the exhaust sensors just get put back into the new system and the ECU will self adjust.

Is that right or must there be some sort of resetting ?

The reason I ask is that the exhaust fumes sell quite rich now:thumbdo:

Any ideas?

Find someone with inpa local to you to reset adaptions, iirc LZ from dent doctor will be your best bet...

No more cats will to block the odors and also the sealer will be burning off for first couple days...

There is a big problem here as the oem backbox can only be used with the oem midsection box as it has a built in x flow. Currently cyl1-3 is running through the baffles of the rear silencer yet cyl4-6 run through the free flow part. Remove the stock back box immediately and replace it with a free flow box.

Your car is running rich cos its confused as fuck right now.

This whole build confuses me a little.....if you are going to keep the stock backbox, why not just cut the cats out of the midsection and put on the 328i headers? Why build a whole new mid-section that poses no improvement over the stock mid-section?

Also in the second video is that steam or smoke? If its smoke :mmm:.
If its steam.......it is not a good idea at all to rev a cold motor like that.

Just because I'm in a hospital bed with more pipes coming out of me than an engine dyno doesn't mean I can't still give sound advice, even if it is 3am while waiting for my next round of pain killers...

Or he could do an X pipe :)

I was not aware there was one in the mid box... do you have any pics on these boxes cut open?

X pipe will also work, when I'm all better I will sacrifice the 330 middle and rear boxes to show you guys the internals.

Gizmo that would be awesome you can weld it up again after... dont forget to open the back box also :fencelook:

YUBEN another thing to check is that the O2 sensors were not maybe swapped to the wrong pipes...

Gizmo, is this true for pre facelift as well? As for the pre facelift the pipes go from split to single. See pic below

So replacing the middle box and not the rear should not have a big effect? Or would it?

As for the 330i:

I can understand your point here as 1-3 goes through one pipe and 4 -6 through the other

pre FL has a single pipe Free flow box in the middle :)

Yes, but due to the extra air coming from removing the cats the car "crackled" non stop so I had the middle box replaced as well.

So my question: my car smells like its running rich and I want to know if the setup I have could be the cause. Still have the OEM back box.

As stated I can understand Gizmo's point on the 330i setup.

problem on the 330i is that the exhaust gasses from the two banks are not combined before the back box... on the pre F/L the gasses are combined when it goes into a single pipe so you dont have this problem :)

Getting the sensors mixed up will cause rich issues too, they are slightely different lengths therefor they have different resistance values and not marking them before removal is a rookie mistake. They have to go back in the correct way only. Chris, I was referring to the 330i setup in my pervious posts.

Im abit concerned of how loud its going to be.
Gizmo when u out of hospital, I like to know the dimensions of your back box cos I like to have your exhaust tone.
Im hoping a 500mm box can fit at the back
