Top Up Engine oil for B47 20d

Strangely my G01 X3 owner's manual does not state the specific engine oil for the 20d, it just mentions a wide range of oils of varying viscosity for the X3 engine range in general, including the petrol models.

I prefer keeping a litre of engine oil in my cars for emergency top up purposes.

I have an extra Motul bottle of 0w40 which seems to be allowed under the range of oils mentioned in the owner's manual, but it is not clear if this is fine for the 20d in particular.

I also have a bottle of 5w30 but I figure the wider viscosity/temperature band of 0w40 would be better?

I am no motor oil expert and willing to hear out your recommendations.

To reiterate that this is just for emergency top up purposes only.

I am glad that the spec is 5w30 since it is the same spec for my Ford and Porsche as well.
After digging in my garage I see that have a few bottles of this spec - I will keep the Castrol spec in the X3.
