Morning kids.

So, the motor is fully assembled.

They found the following during the remainder of the assembly process, and attended to the issues and replaced:
  • Perished Coolant line in front of the motor, wasnt leaking, but was perished enough to concern them
  • 1 intake cam had some slight scoring on the surface, and also one its seals had an issue where it wasnt sealing in the housing (Dont ask, im not sure exactly what this meant). (They had spare cams so replaced the offending cam as a core exchange style, and will polish/repair my cam and put it back into their spares stock)
  • New Head Bolts and Rod bolts as part of the build
Video of the Cam seals, maybe someone can give me some extra insight into what im being shown, i was told its not sealing well. which judging by the flattend seal?

They really are pushing along at full speed here, also they did tell me that all my injectors were not flush into their seats... welp, well guess thats on me as the cause of that particular situation, guess i wasn't as efficient as i thought i was when doing that job.

They will be busy with the motor installation currently, then will let me know once is all buttoned up for first start, and begin testing. they will ensure the run in is done fully, and the first run in service with oil change and more road time before making sure they are comfortable with the car to be released. they want to put on around 500 - 700km to make sure the car has no issues.

So again, will keep you all updated as i get more information.

Great pace here and it goes to show that a 'build' doesn't have to take months or years to complete!

Morning all.

So another update, no images or anything, but ive received a call from Budler, the car is running and assembled. They've put so far 100km on the car with no leaks to report and the car is running beautifully and smooth according to them.

The only thing they not happy with, is there is a "rattling" noise from the under side of the car, which is due to a sound dampening cover missing from the Flywheel inspection hole:
diag_6v4s.jpg

Item number 4 on the above diagram.

I am actually aware of this being missing, as ive tried to find and replace this personally many times, but none of the BMW's i called (JSN and ABM) had this available, and apparently was on back order from BMW AG, however, no stock there either.
So he said he has ordered 2, due to an F10 M5 having the same rattle, also with a missing sound dampening sponge.

With this being done, it means the gearbox must be removed to have it fitted unfortunately, but they said they will do it with pleasure and have the car perfect.

While thats being done, ive requested the rear diff to be serviced, and also the drivers side axle seal has a slight leak as i know there is oily dirty residue on the side shaft. have requested this to be checked and the seal replaced where neccessary. im aware it will add a little extra to the bill, but it will be silly not to attend to it while they are there.

They've told me once the car is back together they will continue driving for another 300 - 500km, then they will confirm with me how the car is running before they feel confident that all is ok.

I must be honest, this gives me a great level of confidence in their service, and the way in which they test, and do business. very refreshing to see.

Will let you all know once there is more to update.

Glad your m6 is back on the road.

Sounds like you’re in good hands with these guys.

Thank you man. Yea it's going very well indeed.

So another quick update, they already sourced the part for the gearbox flywheel inspection area. The sound dampening cover. It's incredible how fast they arrange what needs to be done. This is a part I've been trying to get a hold of the better part of a year. So to say I'm well impressed is an understatement.

This will absolutely get rid of that rattle flywheel chatter. So looking forward to that that being dealt with, it wasn't causing any issues, just sounded kak. Think of a Ducati dry clutch at idle lol 🤣

I wonder how many honeys are gonna be taken on a picnic... ;) Just teezing... but, think about it the next time you look at your back seats...

Glad it's all being taken care of! Short before long it will be in Cape Town, hooning like a local mofo 😁

How's life so far on this side? People and work treating you well?

So once the car is completed and you have received it, is the plan to drive it down to CT or have it transported?

Hahaha well at least someone will get use of the rear seats, plus the honeys will need to be about 3ft6" in height and wear a size 1 shoe 🤣

Cpt life is treating me well, work is really good and chilled, and the people are not as unfriendly as I've been told they are. I find them pretty pleasant.
I haven't explored much, except a few bars and restaurants, and still need to get the beach visit done. But it's coming.
I have a motorbike now for running around which I'm thoroughly enjoying withe the traffic truth be told.

I was playing with the idea between both.
To fly up and drive it down will be nearly as much as getting it transported.
So I've decided to use the services if the gents from Exotic Car Carriers, they have a 2 days turn around time. And drop off close to my apartment. So it's a win.
They also use an enclosed trailer, with full insurance, so from my perspective it's a no brainer

I found people are much friendlier and chilled here than Gauteng. Before you know it you will visit every beach when you can, cause winters are cold and wet.

I am ecstatic that I'm about to dodge traffic for the foreseeable future working much closer to home. CPT traffic is no joke, the guys who have it bad are doing 2hrs+ a day (and that's assuming you have a car, in public transport there are folks doing 3hrs+ a day).

What used to take me 40-45min last year now takes me 90min to 2 hours. Most people are recalled back to office fulltime now and this makes traffic worse. I'm moving in 2 months time. Still about the same distance but less traffic and a straight shot on the N1 from Paarl to Tygervalley. Travel time will reduce significantly (it now in same conditions takes me 30min from the office to Paarl, then office to Somerset West) then my now N2-R300-N1 route.

Yea traffic on the N1 is madness, especially when the weather is not optimal to use public transport, then everyone drives,
So im thankful for the use the bike.

Honestly, it's bad N2, N1, M5, M3, any route into town is a shitshow. Plus everyone is a cowboy now trying to do weird moves to "win" in traffic.

R27 was getting horrible when I lived out that side also. Lol, best is to just live close to work, in town that's a no go unless you can drop minimum deep single digit millions on a crib.

Well I live in Century City, and work in Observatory.

My daily route is jumping onto the N1, get off, and on to the M5, and off at Berkley road. its really not that bad, and even when i get the car back, besides the odd day here and there, i only will have traffic for 2km on the N1, there is little to no traffic after the N1/M5 split in the mornings, however the afternoons are a bit hectic as there is 2 options on the M5 to get back onto the N1, and both of them become single lanes before hitting the N1. so for this point, the bike is king

Ja, that's a *very* short drive, you might even be able to use a myciti and get there quickly given the CC hub for the busses (if you're happy on public transport).

For me it's been Milnerton to town and then Kenilworth to town, both 15ish km. For that drive you're good to go even in really bad days under 30mins I'd guess. On normal traffic in a car probably 20ish? depending on where in Century City you are.

Yea im pretty lucky, i chose to stay close to the work place.
I dont mind the MyCiti, but they dopnt stop close enough to my office, so i choose to rather drive/ride myself.

I stay on Century Boulevard at a place called Bougain Villas estate. quite a nice place, and very central to everything.

Ah, you must be enjoying all the pops and bangs 😂 okes drive like proper dicks around those circles.

Just read through the thread since November, glad the car is getting sorted. Service from Budler seems top notch.
