Sport Button

Thought all the Cooper S models had the Sport Button as standard... but mine doesn't :(

Apparently it was an optional extra for early 2010 and below models.

Anyone else not have one in their Cooper S ?
And does it make much of a difference?

You don't have it??!!!
:nonono: such a pity because it makes the car supa fast and everything goes blurry.

You bought a dud.

You should take it back :fencelook:

Same story here. I dont have a sport button either. Apparently it gives 20nm more torque between a certain RPM range in certain gears and makes the exhaust crackle a bit more.

Thanks, I know it made quite a difference on my previous cars.

Had a look on the Northamericanmotoring and mini2 forums and a retrofit is possible but not really worth the effort. ECU coding etc. involved.

 the sport Button opens up the exhaust with a flap that is supposed to give it better breathing, and changes the map slightly.
So if you dont have it then the pipe is already derestricted and you are running the full map for that Model.
I think MiniMike will be able to clarify this as he used to sell them.

Nice i didnt know this, very interesting!
Do you know if you can put a back freeflow box on without loosing the m/plan??

Hmm doubt its running the full map., its an option that needs to be coded on the ECU.

If you have it then it should do the usual. Improve throttle response and tighten up steering., and as hotchocolate mentioned, change the exhaust note.

Would have been a "nice to have"..

Jarv, i would think it would void any exhaust system related claims. Maybe related engine ones as well.

Hey Jarv,

As far as what I know, its not possible to modify any factory parts when in M/Plan. BMW are notorious for voiding M/Plans for little things that we may not consider detrimental to the car in any way.

Wait for M/Plan to expire and then you will be as free as a bird to do anything you like to your ride.

Do Mini/BMW not have any options to improve performance through them for the Mini's like they do for the BMW's?

Don't know about increase in torque or mapping and I've never heard of this.i do know that I only drove with it on as it made the throttle response sharper. With it off, the pedal felt spongy- with it on , it felt lighter.
Won't a sprint booster sort this issue out

Was just reading up on the sprint booster earlier., it sorts out the hesitation on takeoff which I found.
Am almost slipping the clutch on takeoff, or blipping it to get the revs up.

Doubt its motorplan friendly though ?
Comes in just under 2k as well.

From the MINI USA website:

I think you are right mate, cause mine pop's hecticly when I take my foot off the throttle without a sport button none the less. Especially in the mornings on the way to work and also after I open her up running through a few gears.

It is an optional extra and you can feel a difference. Heavier steering, better throttle repsonse and my personal favourite, a popping exhaust. With practice I've managed to get it to double tap on the pops too.

Interesting, I get popping on the JCW even without the Sport button (don't try it too often though). Will slap it on next time and see what she does.
