Speed bumps

:smilebounce: I got a local RAV4 owner back the other day. She was riding my rear bumper at a speed bump and bad road surface in my area while in the MCoupe. But I also drive a Supercharged 4.8 Nissan Patrol with lift, big tyres and a bullbar. She got noticeably flustered when I rode her rear bumper a few days later...

I hate when people do this. I always have to take speed bumps at an angle and really slowly. I also change my route when driving the Beemer to avoid speed bumps and pot holes or known roads where metro fiber or Telkom decide to dig up across the road

Same thing happened to me in Bedfordview this week, I was driving cautiously over the speed bumps as I usually do (because I have mechanical sympathy and I don't want to destroy my pride and joy) and this Hilux comes blasting pass me and the 2 cars behind me, hitting 2 speed bumps and a raised turning circle, Dakar rally style and catching air in the process...

This level of aggressiveness on your daily commute?!?! Wow, people need to clam down.

I hate it when a car behind me rear tails and applies pressure, before a speed bump, causing me to take the bump quickly, and then that son of a btch takes his time. Happens a lot with the luxury vehicles.

Well I just let them get flustered. They don't have a 100K exhaust system non run flat tyres and a (slightly) lowered car to worry about. Chances are our paths will never cross again so I don't really care what they think of me.

SUVs are usually the culprits in these instances and in the wet weather on the west rand in particular it seems they believe its their time to shine doing frankly insane speeds for the conditions...

I just boycott centres that are "anti-nice-cars" - Waterfall corner had a hump that they have now reprofiled. I know of so many people that just stopped going there (if cars could bleed it would look like an unholy alter prior to this). It is a stupid solution to a problem thought up by the typical idiotic security people that seem to operate at centres. it does absolutely NOTHING for security or to stop SUVs from speeding. You can make speed humps that require a reduction in speed but don't need you to do 1km/h - I can only imagine it is out of sheer idiocy or spite that this is done. Growthpoint office parks are another source of frustration.

Kyalami corner's solution to their security issues has been to erect nonsensical and sequential humps and barriers which just means that I simply won't go there anymore. You push a button and you can exit... great improvement to security guys... :eek:mgwaiting:

No centre has a point of difference anymore with the sheer volume of them (certainly in the north) all of which have the same stores and same items at the same prices etc... In the case of Kyalami Corner, even the Elantra scrapes so basically unless you have an SUV or don't care about your car, you can't go there.

Even if you in an SUV, its an awful feeling going fast over a speed bump.

I drive over them slow, even though I drive an SUV.

But I do agree, its mostly the SUV drivers that do this, they even to do it other SUV drivers :dunnoanymore:

As a matter of interest, does anybody know whether there are regulations regarding speed bump design and sizing?

Start rant.
They've recently put up new speed bumps at my work place, Route 21 corporate park. They are absolutely ridiculous. The small and tall kind, do you know what I am talking about?
Some of them were so bad that my car could not be driven over them without scraping. I have an E46 with Sport pack, it ain't no Lamborghini!

Some of the speed bumps had to be cut down because of this.

In addition to my personal car woes, our company deals with solar (photovoltaic) panels. Our drivers now have to be extra cautious for fear of cracking a panel.

Just the other day they put up these same style of speed bumps in my residential estate! I want to tear my hair out!

Now I mean no offense to any potential SUV drivers but it seems as if these awful speed bumps have been implemented because dick, bob, sue and jane drivers either a Hilux, a fortuner or a Ford ranger! :rage:

And you know what, I don't blame them. Look at our roads and now the "insert strong language" speed bumps!

If these speed bump companies could please wake up, because not everybody drives an SUV and I'm tired of planning my routes around their vehicle damaging road obstacles.
End rant.

The ones that were in the corporate park when i worked were crappy, but i didn't have a BMW then.

Tshwane has a plan for speed bumps, question is who is supposed to follow the guideline?

I am the same, irrespective of the car, I drive over them slowly. On my worst of days, when I am really late, it is still considerably slower than most.

I always go slow over speed bumps even when I drive my mother's X3 and people always get irritated. I remember when my car was on the ground I use to take millions of years on a speed bump then then people get cross and try over taking after but then I'm already off so they cant pass :roflol:

but people get cross whether you take 3 second or 15 seconds on a speed bump, dont understand why they want to jump over it quickly then once on a straight they go slow haha

Was this in the car, or...?

I see what you did there :fencelook::smilebounce:

Every morning several cars will overtake to pass on the oncoming lane just because I slow down to a proper speed for the bumps...and I have standard suspension - not for low and slow purposes...I also get the annoyed look and high revs as they speed off - and its both cars and SUV's / bakkies.

In the parking at canal walk there's these round metal bumps which I hate, I take my time, got a lady fly pass me over the next set of bumps in a polo, some people don't care at all and all just to be in front of me by the boom gate
