I am curious to know the mileage on the car when the turbo work became necessary? Stock ECU or flashed software?

I am considering to buy a Z4 35is with the 250kW version of the N54, achieved by overboosting between 1500 - 4500 rpm under full throttle. It would be interesting to see if wastegate rattles and turbo failures occur earlier on the 35is version than on the regular 35i because of this overboosting capability.

I unfortunately didn't get the car with the original turbos on so I am unable to advise on that info, From the research I have done though the waste gate rattle can happen as early as 25k km, no actual event or style of driving causes it in particular. Certain things can make it sound worse like faulty solenoids, vacuum leaks etc as there is less pressure pulling the waste gates closed, so if the damage is already done to the metal collar then these things will just amplify the sound.

I think the best thing to do if this worries you is buy the waste gate repair kit and get it fitted as soon as you get the car to put your mind at ease.
