So there I am racing home late night and it's been raining nonstop since the sun went down on this forth. Baam my 540i goes right thru a deep ass rain puddle. Engine service light comes on and loss of power I noticed. I got home gather my thoughts thinking oh snap what I have done?! So I can most of the oil with my suction pump thru the oil gauge tube. And change the air filter but couldn't do the oil filter as I'm still awaiting my replacement filter socket. Car seems to run slightly normal but still hearing this knocking or ticking from inside the car I can hear it from the engine?! Any thoughts?

was there any water residue formed withing the Oil track ? under the lid ?

or did water manage to get into the upper engine area ?

Water may have rapidly cooled the exhaust manifold, perhaps encouraging a bit of a warp - resulting in a leaking exhaust gasket or manifold. This might explain th noise in the car.

Hope it helps....

It may also be worth checking for jumping spark....do this in a dark area, and you may see spark dwellimg around components. You will also hear a ticking sound...

Hey guys thanks actually all is well but the o2 sensor after the cat is loose and needs to be plugged in and I actually just change the first 4 plugs and didn't change the other 4 yet but will do tmrw. Ran codes and still performing but did get wet but nothing of punitive damage to the engine whew
