It will never be the same. No panel shop can give you what bmwsa did when it was new... Never

Wow, what an unnecessary comment

For what it is worth, I have seen my own guys match metallic colours to such a close match that I cannot tell where they worked on the car.

Its a small prang which by the looks of it has been fixed very well, in a months time you will have forgotten about it.

I have seen very few cars that are 100% after needing panelwork.

and i have yet to see a perfect colour match up. After a while the difference will show itself, this obviously depends on how well the paintwork is looked after.

The secret is to polish the adjacent panels first, then match to those panels.

The computer uses the cars colour code to produce a standard colour, then there is 5 various shades of that colour which are placed on the panel adjacent to the damaged panel once polished. They then select the shade that is the closest and the computer calculates a mixing palette and bob is your uncle.

The paintwork is sprayed under a UV light, to ensure the flake is in the right direction, ensure no patchiness and the clear is added the same way before wet sanding and polishing.

You cant tell that panel was worked on when they are done.

Considering the car is practically (well is actually) new, matching the colour is not really compromised by paint contamination etc. Also, assuming that cars that come out of any factory are 100% perfect is a bit naive. Some defects do slip through, and by the time the car has arrived at the dealership for sale and before the PDI it may have been damaged and repaired several times.

At the end of the day, this is a very unfortunate thing to have happen, but one has to make the best of it - otherwise the only thing to do is to park your car in your garage and never drive it, because that's the only way to keep it in "perfect" showroom condition...

And even then there is nothing stopping the nanny or a lil one from leaning the broom against it or using the bonnet as a coffee table. :roflol:

Yes! I almost killed our domestic, she ran out the room in fear once I just started screaming and swearing like a raging lunatic after I walked into the garage and find the plastic washing basket placed on the E90 bonnet with a full load of clothes! :fishwack::argh:

@Sniper. Glad your car is almost sorted bud! You must be ecstatic!

... now imagine taking your car in to Hi-Q to have the balancing checked, and you find the one worker, in his dirty blue overalls, with greasy hands, and a polony sandwich in the other hand, busy sitting in your car, behind the wheel... :argh:

I almost killed the guy!!!

It took the manager, and 2 other staff to get me off him, and calmed down... :fencelook:

I used to play Grand Theft Auto a long time ago, and if you were looking for trouble with the police they would often say, "you are risking your life..."! :roflol:

I was in the same situation with the E90 I had. 80K damage and the quarter panels were redone , I had the car back 5 times at the panel beaters and eventually the six time I left I there and informed the insurance I did not want the car anymore I went to the staelership and found the same model same color and took pictures and composed a snotty e mail informing them until it looked the same as the one in the mail I did not want it . Eventually I got it back perfect condition and it actually drove better than before with all the new parts and laser chassis alignment done

But it was never the same you always look and check and look again on that side of the car and as soon as you see it. it is the first thing you look at

So eventually I took the loss and got rid of it .

You are quite right, the head mechanic told me that they did rush to get my car out.
At least when it goes in next time they are giving me a loan car for the day and it might be a F30
