haha but over 30l per 100 is a bit heavy......no that computer is mad......
and the e12 is having cluster and seats redone

Weeeell, that doesn't sound that bad for an s38............, yeah that is a bit high.

What happens if you reset it while say driving on the highway?

My average fuel consumption is 10.7L/100Km on the combined cycle.

The S38B36 engine surprised me with it's fuel frugality when driven nice. Nail it all the time and it doesnt go much past 16L/100Km either.

What do you get when just driving in town? I get 20L/100km driving to work and back in town everyday and 10L/100km on open roads.

scary part...this car has a 90l tank!!!!!!!!!! Try filling that....!

I did once and found that the tank is leaking. If I fill it more than about 50L it leaks from the top of the tank somewhere. Haven't found where yet. :(

Well i get 400odd km on a full tank with my s38 so i call the OBC saying 13l/100 a LIAR

My overall according to the OBC is 16L/100km and I can roughly 200km on R300. That's with mixed driving, town + some highway. So it seems pretty accurate to me. :dunno:

Think I'll do another proper test just to make sure :mmm:

EDIT: Just did the math again quick... think it's right.

I am assuming that is you personal calculations? Not the readout on the OBC......From what I have seen under similar driving conditions the s38 seems to use more than the m60....but then again our m60 seems to be a bit of a special case as it give a good 15/16 l/100km even when driven like a bat out of hell.

I'm betting it's just sensors. If something was wrong with the computer, I think it would have been worse. The -37 degrees is definitely just the sensor. The E30's do the same when their sensors give way.

Just a thought, but does the outside temp sensor have an influence on the computers calculations?? Rick might know this?? I say replace the temp sensor and see what it does before you spend loads of $$$ on other bits.

Nope outside tempetature is separate and wont affect anything.

For some reason there are four or five individual air temp sensors for engine, MAF aircon (inside and outside) and the one in the bumper...overkill or just redundancy I guess.

or BMW over engineering, they love doing that!

agree sensors need checking, but a spare computer box in good condition can also do no harm....

ok, first question on back seat in each corner there is a whole in the seat, looks like a switch of sorts goes there, nothing on OEM that i can see, does anybody know?

Ahhh solved, head rest switches, thanx Rick540

The M5 has electric rear headrests, so there are supposed to be switches there for the headrests. Wait for Rick to answer as he had the same problem and made a plan for the switches.

On some of the cars the rear headrests automatically raised when the safety belt was connected and some had the switch.
The previous 2 were like that and my current car has the switches

Yep, this was calculated from the pump reading between 10 fillups
