DON'T DO IT!!! You are destroying a piece of SA motoring history and will selfishly ensure that there is one less 333i on the road for future generations to enjoy!

Harsh I know, but enough is enough guys!!!:argh:

He has done that before as he wrote in one of his posts so .....who are we to complain , Just guys who are passionate about a piece of heritage .

if you are bent on changing, make sure u upgrade the cooling. I think the 333i had a small radiator for that engine. Did you consider going for a newer multivalve engine?

Guess I'm a purist never understood why guys buy cars like this just to convert iit into their idea of perfection:fencelook:.

I get & appreciate making your car your own, but why not start with a regular run of the mill E30 why change something that was created only in this country during the golden years of racing.

Never again will manufactures produce small volume specials like the XR8, Intercepter, GTV 3.0, 333i & 325Is:cry:

Some goes for the guys boosting M5's, why not make yourself a Alpina B10 replica?

I must be missing something:nonono:

Agree wholeheartedly with OGE34, but it is his car, so good luck with the transplant. Do I hear the values of original 333i's going up further as time passes?

It would be almost impossible explain or make people understand the modifying paradigm. To people who believe what comes from factory is perfection..... each to their own. I would love for this guy to restore it or keep it original, but it might not be feasible.

I have no issue with modifying, have done mild mods to almost all cars that I have owned.: ( not my ex E34M5 though)

What I fail to understand is when modifying a car of historical significance such as a 333i:argh:

Point taken WRT feasibility though.:=):

Bet you will not get a clean no stories car for less than R150k and if you ship to the UK +20k of the Queens money.

Also agree with OGE34. People buy an IS or 333 for around R100 and then pull out the internal of the engine which makes it an IS or 333 to add a turbo. You can pick up 2 door bodies for like R10k, reconditioned gearboxes for like R6k, secondhand M20 engine for like R5k. Or a complete 2 door 325i for less than half the price of an average looking IS. Then you can build what ever you want from there.

If you buy an IS or 333 for like R30k, then I know restoring is probably a lost cause. Then I can understand modifying it as you would be giving it new life.

Anyway, that's just my opinion and like I said before, it is his car so he can do what he wants with it. :thumb:

I have a e34 540i Individual 6 speed ..one of 72 made in South Africa . I can understand putting a better or louder exhaust on as it can be changed but putting a M 62 motor in the car instead of the original M60 does not make it better . It is part of bm heritage in this country .

What comes from the factory is not always perfection. Some people might even argue that a regular e30 325i should'nt be guttered.. where does it stop?. There are people who watch overhauling and feel the car should be restored to stock. Personally i like when new technology marries old school looks. If you look at the jaguar e-type which is a great motoring icon, much more valuable than the 333i was modified and improved by a company called eagle, which some of you may have recalled from top gear. Anyway the car is valued at 1 millon pounds, 10x an original condition e-type. Some people might like 'Eleanor' and some might like the Shelby gt500. Anyway the 333i was known for overheating.

All of these cars you are talking about were built in hundreds of thousands, so sure, no problem. Limited run specials of historic appeal should be left alone. The 333i was built with assistance from Alpina and less than 200 were built. It has world-wide appeal and rich BMW SA history. It should be left that way.

At the end of the day it is his car and what he does with it is his business. If he doesn't already know what a special car he has got, then these posts may make him think and change his mind. If not, well so be it, but it will be sad to see another car disappear

He should'nt be crucified for wanting a more feasable option. He did'nt start this thread to ask permission if he can change the engine.

Just a question on everyone’s opinion. Does the M535i e12 fall into the same class as the 333i? As the m535i was the first official M car built (in SA and if I’m not mistaken the World)
