Loved My Opel, had the Monza 2l CD 16v. Will I ever buy another one ....... probably not. The oil leaks and constant electrical faults, leaky windscreens put me off them for life unfortunately .

Yup we did, my Dad had an Astra tS that he bought new in 1994 and the guys at school REFUSED to believe that we had an Astra 200tS, said they only came in Kadetts and blah blah blah.

Many years later I was fortunate to have bought a face lift 1996 model Astra 200tS with very low mileage, that thing was a beast for a factory car:praise:

I remember the Astra ts, I also remember a story that there was a sticker that was made for them in the same font as the badges: "M3 eater".

Was a factory option from Opel I was told? Not sure on how true this is.

Nah highly doubt that sticker story is true however, I did witness my old man give a German Spec HELL from Durban all the way to Marianhill toll:rollsmile:

Those who have the first couple of speed and sound magazine will remember all the worked 200ts models pushing big numbers on dynos. Of course many of those ts motors also ended up in super bosses and baby bosses, king of the street at the time. Nascar Performance pumped out some crazy power hot hatches back in the day.

I haven't found any images of this mysterious sticker myself.

I actually had the 160is as a first car back in the day.

After about a month of having bought the car, it blew the head gasket and stuffed the pistons as well from over heating.

I skimmed the head gasket, oversized the pistons, knife edged the crank and some other stuff after that.

It ran pretty strong for many years, and then I stuffed it into a light pole and a rental vehicle in that order. I was young and dumb.

Miss that car, it took the hit very well and I could walk away.

Ahhh, my first love too. IMHO the 180is was better than the 200is because of the 16v ecotec motor, 180 came with 99KW DOHC and the 200 came with 95KW (If I remember correctly) and was a SOHC. The golf 3 GTI at the time I think only had 89KW.

Love the car man!!

That 4 Kw was not that made the diffrence it was the redline that made the difference, but yes would not say they were better but sure faster in stock form.
[/quote]

What was the redline difference? Never drove a 200is so wouldn't know but did drive past a few in my 180is.

My 200is euro was 16v. Motor looked similar to the Superboss motor. Mine came 16v from opel. Many i raced back in the day was 16v also. I was in a 200is Euro car club and everyone was 16v.

This is how my motor looked, obviously without the the throttle bodies

That is the C20XE motor which, as Gordvisr states, never ever came in a Kadett from factory. The car you had was probably the 180is 16V which was a C18SEL engine with Ecotec on the plug cover, with 99kW.

Hallo All

The time has come that i introduce my First love.

The Past.....

Back in November 2002 i bought a 1994 Opel Kadett 200is, At the time it had 213 XXXkm on the clock. Back in 2008 i re-sprayed the car myself. At that time the car had a tad less than 400 000 km on.

Just wanted to say thanks for starting this thread. You got my in big trouble today. After seeing your thread, I had the itch again and started OLX'ing and Gumtree'ing. Missus caught me and I reckon I would have got off easier if it had been porn rather than cars..........

Needless to say I've been banned from the above sites and 200iS searching.:blueCry:

:rollsmile::rollsmile:

i have seen in the past, most that have sold their Kadett's wanted one again.
I guess i learnt from their mistakes

There was quite a diffrence in quality between the monza, astra range, i never had any issues on electrical side besides may be the starter a few times ( due to conecting rods ) All my electrical parts was never replaced.and no leaks from any windows or wherever.

The 8 Valve redline at 6000rpm where the 16Valve at 7000rpm

Nice shopping list

Nice to see some older style builds taking place, as opposed to the current "downpipe and software" lol.

I think you are going to have a little torque monster when you are done

Last week i had some time on my hands to remove the old engine and Tuesday i spend some time opening her up to find out what went wrong, in the back of my head i thought i had an oil surge but nothing but that.

img_20170502_133443_5394644043.jpg

The rod bolts snapped on two rods on #1 it snapped in the middle of the stud and on #2 the heads snapped off.

img_20170502_133353_2221829425.jpg

Here you can see no burn marks on the crank.

Damage to the rest :(

So then the next morning after phoning several company's i got my hands on these babies. ( making sure this wont happen again )Got them from turbo and nos conexion.
And picked up the other block from engineering.

Started assembling the engine and ran into problems with the pistons, looks like they tried modifying the rings for the pistons or something, needless to say that i am busy saving for a new set.

:bravo: are you still going to run 8v? These kadett's play on the road nicely with the torque steer. Goodluck

Yes the plan is to keep it 8 valve, will see how it goes, if it is reliable on the head side it stays 8 valve. with the standard motor it allready had torque steer so yes i think with the turbo it will be worse. Car is standing for 1 year now , cant wait for it to be finished.

This is an awesome build, can't wait to see the end result! Had the privilege to drive a tS a while back and it made me wet myself in both excitement and fear - mostly fear.. :fencelook:

What box are you running? With my astra I ran with a f20 box no lsd, played on the road but not too hectic but the turbo came in early and spun quite quickly. Then when I bought my kadett it had the f28 with lsd and it played quite a bit on th road jumping from lane to lane once boost kicked in. Nice in the dry but couldn't do much in the wet. Enjoyed them and do miss them. Too bad you don't see many 200ts on the road anymore. Patience bud it will be ready soon and you will have a blast:thumbs: the 8v motor are also strong
