Realistically, what can I expect for my car?

Ola fanatics, If I were to sell my car, what should I do to get the maximum value for it?

Assumptions for achieving max sale price:
1) Return car to stock look, then sell mods separately after (visual mods). i.e. remove boot spoiler, put back chrome grills, put the old exhaust back in, stock rear diffuser back on
2) Get new tires first - current tires probably have less than a year left in them.
3) Do an engine assessment/maintenance if necessary, so I can prove a clean bill of health

Once all that is done, what can I expect from a 320i M-Sport 2013 model with a bit less than 120k on the clock? 19" wheels, xenons, no comments, FSH from BMW.

From reading stories of F30's, past 100 000km will make your car depreciate in value a lot, Well... Most cars.

Another question you may come across is If the Timing chain was ever replaced due to that being a common failure with these cars.

From seeing the going rate of them I would say expect less than 300k, Somewhere in the 200's.

I agree. I'm seeing my exact car/specs for around 250-ish from a dealer. So my optimistic worst case scenario is I'd get 220k for it. Hopefully a bit more, but I don't know. Trade in value sucks, as always.

I am willing to wager (just a gut feel, no scientific basis) that a stealer (BMW dealer) would offer you R175k, ignoring any special trade in assistance on a new/demo car.

Private sale would yield the best price, at the cost of admin and the chance of dodgy deals coming through.

I would email some pics to We Buy Cars and ask them for a ball park - this would give you a great base line figure to work with. I would assume they would say R180k-R200k.

Good luck.

R180k max, flooded market full of 320is
There are two sides to that coin.
My TT was a special edition model but I struggled to trade it at a good price. It traded for 205k with BMW Autobahn, with 20k trade assist already included in thay figure. However, my wife's A3 1.4T Sedan SE Manual traded for 275k a few months earlier, with NO trade assist from Mazda. The A3 Sedan hit the sweet spot - it was more popular than the TT, but not as ubiquitous as a 3 series.

Got a huge shock when i wanted to trade my S4. Dealers offered me 70k below trade even though they admitted the audi was in excellent condition. S4 isnt as popular as a 320i but keep the vaseline ready.

Try to sell it privately for the best deal.

For a private sale, I'd disagree. I'd say that's most likely what trade in would be. In fact I think I got a trade in value from webuycars for that a while ago.

Thanks man, I'm still on the fence about selling, so I'm not ready to commit to anything yet, but I'll hit you up when this idea progresses

Yeah I know, dealers offer insanely low prices so that they can make as much profit as possible upon re-sale. I'm trying to stay away from this.

I'm so on the fence about my car at the moment. I love it and have no issues with the car itself at all.. but the roads I take to work are getting worse and worse, I have two large dogs, and now that I'm a home owner and doing loads of DIY/renovations etc at the house, its really proving to be some-what impractical for my needs. I wish I could afford a second car, but at this point I cant. So I'm looking at SUV's... but really not keen on letting her go. Going to be a very tough choice

I'm not going to argue then, you guys may be right. If that's true then it's truely a sad state of affairs. I bought it a year ago for around 250k. If this is correct then that's a 70k loss in 1 year? That's quite ridiculous, and certainly not worth selling then.

I was offered 320k for my 2014 335i at 75k kms Last Year Sept from BMW as it stands. Won't even divulge what I paid for the car, but you can look at List prices :fencelook: so needless to say I kept the car for now.. She is now on 83k kms.. Probably will get offered 260k max if I am lucky now seeing that it is no longer a Premium used car (over 75k kms) and plan is close to end..

When it comes to cars you will rarely win, they are a liability, but damn they put a smile on your face and can really cheer you up on a bad day! So it all makes up for the loss of $$$ :smilebounce:

Haha, well said. Cars are never an investment, but WOW I'm shocked at how bad the re-sale value is. certainly not worth giving up a car I really enjoy. I'll keep borrowing my dads cruiser for heavy lifting :skit::biglol:

Solution:
1. Fit a tow bar. Get a venter trailer
2. Get a space saver spare wheel to either tie down in the boot or plonk into the trailer.
3. If you need more space, get a neat Thule (or similar) roof box.
4. With a spare tyre onboard, you can ditch the runflats and either get non RFT tyres, or sell your current wheels and then buy a set of super comfy/plumpy standard 16inch wheels and tyres.
5. Get a tarpaulin from Builders to lay on your back seat and front passenger seat (airbag off) and you can transport the dogs.

Since your car is out of plan, you can save a bundle by getting a non OEM towbar and roof racks.

If you sum up all of the above, I guess it should be less than buying an SUV, including the finance charges and interest on financing.

Just a long shot, but in light of your requirements, why not get a trailer and then you can have the best of both worlds.

We Buy Cars give one value upfront then find a million reasons to low-ball you. Waste of time. In my opinion.

We Buy Cars are honestly a bunch of snakes.

They told me they'd offer me 190k for my Megane RS, so i agreed and they came out. Now I owned the vehicle from 9000kms and drove it to 65000, this guy shows up and opens the boot and touches the paint and tells me it was " Recently in an accident " he offered me 145k.

I laughed at him and told him to pack his bags lol.

They offered me R120k for my Audi A4 with 85k KM and balance of MP for another 2 years (or 20k KM) :roflol: :roflol: :roflol:

Some of these guys think everyone is just dumb and have no clue about cars. Even a person who knows nothing about car will at least know how much they paid for the car in the first place. When you sell your car, the dealer finds 100's of things wrong but the car you buying from them is perfect. Just wait a while until you traded your car and see how its advertised. Bunch of rip offs. :dunnoanymore:
