If anyone is currently struggeling to get Black plastidip I do have some extra (Sandton or Centurion area), played with the rims yesterday, did them from Matte Black to metalic black then did a gloss coat. It looks the bussiness but it might be just me. As soon as I figured how to post pics I will.

I used thinners/turps, which peeled the rubber off in an instant then I cleaned it off immediately. I just covered it in silicone spray to 'treat' the raw plastic & was happy with the result, didn't even bother to plastidip it.

just put the final coat on my centre console and rear ashtray surrounds. they look so good now :joy:

must now do the front ashtray/sunglasses/DSC surrounds. didnt want to start that until I could remove all the rubber of the ashtray cover.

Had a go at a consol refurb using plastidip this weekend: Am very happy with the result. Plastidip is amazing! I did the entire consol and sunglass case/ashtray however have only pictured the later as its the most obvious improvement!

Thanks mate! I used a stanley knife blade to take off the old rubberised coat and then sanded it down with 220 grit then 380 grit. Then gave it four coats of Plastidip with half hour breaks between coats. Unfortunately I lost the silver on the tabs during sanding but I am still happy with it!

nice

I went the easy route, brake fluid.

took the rubber right off, didnt harm the plastic or the chrome.

then I just masked the tabs and 220 gritted

also took the "doors" off, to make it easier

Looks great! Pity my E90's interior plastic trim is grey and not black! :nonono:

If it's really messed up you may as well remove all of the rubber. I did that to my grey interior, made a huge improvement except for one deep scratch. Didn't even use plastidip. Just clean it properly & use silicone spray as I mentioned before.

Be careful when replacing the door as there is a tiny silver spring which is delicate. My door stopped opening after pushing it so I had to take it apart again to fiddle with it. This is definitely the best visual mod I have ever done because it is something you see everyday while driving (2nd would be chrome speedo rings with sharpie mod). I'm slightly OCD so those ugly scratches and peeling drove me insane...
Fortunately my E90's interior is spotless except for the panel surrounding the rear ashtray (which you can only see from the backseat) So I'll be using plastidip on that when I have a chance.

@ Philip ? Why not use a mixture between white and black until you get the grey you want for your interior? I would if i were you , give it a go.
I mixed before and it works like a bloody charm.

no, for that I just did 220git sanding, didnt need to remove it all, as it was just flaking.

the ashtray door however had a deep scratch in the rubber that I would not have been able to sand out.
