my touring, when i start it in the morning.....i reverse and it pulls out as per normal...i then pull away and the car revs to 4000 revs but no movement...after about 30 seconds it goes back to normal. Its steptronic...what could the problem possibly be?

Your balls are worn dude :)

Valve body in the gearbox, its a classic BMW gearbox failure.

Good news is its not too serious, what happens is you have liittle plastic balls in the gearbox that runs on tracks on a plastic chassis inside the gearbox, and with time, those balls wear out.

Valve bodies can be replaced quite easily, just do not leave it, you could let the box self destruct and then its a a 30k repair instead of 5k.

Gotta love how BMW put plastic parts in something like a gearbox where shit gets hot and causes plastic shit to get brittle!

Same shit with electric seats! I open up the little box with gears in it, all of them are metal, except for two! and im sure you can take one guess at which ones broke!

You should do an oil change and filter clean. If it happens only in the morning its signs of the fluid not warm enough, I would also check that you have no blockages or kinks to the lines that run to the oil cooler which I think is mounted on the right side of your radiator...Goodluck hope its a quick/cheap fix for you...

@norulz....thanks, the car is at mechanic and just drove the car on cold start and problem not there...he says its strange as this is not a sign of a gearbox problem.....

I had a major service done a month ago..the fluid is surely not warming up. i idle the car till the heat gauge needle points out the cool area and then i kind have a better experience...
