Awesome! Are you going to install the exhaust system yourself?

hey,
wont be installing the system myself, dont have time at the moment, also i need the "downpipe" sections that link the mid section to the manifolds made up so the exhaust shop will be doing the install for me,
also heard that removing the stock manifolds is a real pita so just going to let them do it:=):
dont feel like that headache at the moment

so yesterday i got the following done/replaced:

new radiator
expansion tank and cap
valve/tappet cover gasket
oil, oil filter
coolant

aircon regas

hoping to take the car for a dyno run today to get a nice base power reading, then form the will do exhaust,
then filter
then software

and check the power reading inbetween,

more curious to see then anything else,
also should get my window tint on friday:=):

also really want my wheels metalic purple with polished lip......:fencelook:
real bad

also searching for black door/window trim

so got my car dyno'ed today to check the power before i start fiddling with it,

so the dyno shows my car makes a maximum of 180kw and 303nm @ the flywheel,
im happy with that though its seems a bit high obviously because the car standard makes 170kw 300nm,
my car is in tip top condition and feels really strong, though these readings are high,
what are your opinions?

it was about 25 degrees C and im at the coast,

interested to see what difference the mods make

the photos are super bad, sorry about that,

readings are

5000rpm - 158.4kw 5000rpm - 302.8
5500 - 173.1 5500 - 300.6
6000 - 180.7 6000 - 287.7
6500 - 171.6 6000 - 252.2

Numbers mean nothing (I'm sorry to say). Every dyno is different, as is there calibration and correction factors. The only true means of comparison is comparing another 330i at exactly the same time on the same dyno. It's a great tool for comparing modifications, so remember to stick to the same dyno when you go for the next run.

Your power and torque profiles are very neat and M54B30 characteristic (As far as I know) so that looks good!

Excited to see what the next mods result in

Good job and thanks for sharing!:ty:

ya definitely, i couldnt agree more,
the results almost seem too good to be true that why i am slightly sceptical, but very happy of how the graphs look regardless of figures, super smooth and shows how the car feels on the road, so thats good

also very interested to see what the mods bring, then after the mods the 3.46 diff:rollsmile:

dyno was at Stealth tuning in killarney gardens btw

Your car is helluva strong bud!

But another thing to remember is, no two cars are the same as we all know. Your car made 180kw, another 330i could possibly make less power at the same dyno, on the same day. Just another thing to consider...

do bmw quote the power outputs quite conservatively?
anyone get a higher reading then the stock claimed output without any mods?

What should I expect to pay for a dyno run?

i paid R200 at stealth and then because im coming back next week they said R100 per run testing the different mods after that

All that matters is how she runs in comparison to the competition. I'm sure it can show a clean pair of heals to cars less than 1/4 of its age:cartel:

so got my exhaust done the other day, Wednesday, and also added a K&N flat filter to my car,

here's a pic of it sans exhaust

will take a vid of the sound sometime, was too noisy in the dyno room with the fan so would make for a bad vid

really like the sound of the car now, got a nice deep sound (no drone) under 4k rpm then after that to redline its got a nice gruff scream as a 3l n/a straight 6 should,
sounds very slightly M3 like close to redline, just less rasp and more clear
overall very happy with the sound

my exhaust guy was worried about loosing torque so he went with a 50mm section from the viper branches to the 57mm mid section, then 57mm through to the back (bought the mid and rear section from moranoraxis) 3 boxes in the system,
sounds stock at cruising, idle, then comes alive the more you push,
got quite a bass'y note under 3k rpm

after doing the system theres probably a few things i would like to change in the future, but that will wait for now,
has really ugly tips on atm to:thumbdo:

the car feels good, no huge noticeable difference in power, just basically better throttle response, slight power and torque increase, just more fun i guess, i think software will compliment it well,

as seen in the dyno graphs below,
i have a weird dip in torque and slightly in power around the 4k rpm range, hope to smoothen that out similar to the stock cure with some tuning,
first run made 165kw

also the first run i got a low oil pressure light for some reason so the power sort of "cut" there,
but basically it is similar to my first dyno run with 180kw peak power and torque at around 307nm+- torque

overall happy more then anything for the sound and smile on my face:rollsmile:
will tweak and play to sort out the power delivery and smoothen it etc

also getting this soon for my car:rollsmile:
super stoked
m3 steering wheel

told you is sounded good

I have seen that dip on a few m54 graphs no one seems to know what causes it some speculation says disa valve but I have not seen anyone resolve it and find a cause

Glad you enjoying the exhaust and it gets to live on in your car :)
