Hi Guru's

Im finally in the position to buy a F30 and I have narrowed it down to the following two, Im not asking which car is better but rather which is a more sensible purchase for someone looking to keep this car for at least 5 years or longer-I know the facelift is coming out in July but realistically i will not be able to afford a new facelift 3series right now.

I know the 328i is an awesome car when compared to the 320i in terms of performance but basically they are the same car - so does it may sense going for 328i (2014 model ) or 320i (2015 model) for the same price.

which will resell better after 5 years ?

Headlamp washer system
Hi-Fi loudspeaker system
Navigation System, Business
Park Distance Control (PDC) Rear
Sport automatic transmission

320i 2015
20km

Alpine White
Leather Dakota Black
19" M light alloy wheels Star-spoke style 403 M with mixed tyres

Thank you all again for your honest advice.

If you are buying a BMW for resale purposes, you will be highly disappointed when it comes time to sell again.

Get the 328i and enjoy it for as long as you can.

its all well and good have a brand new car .. but the moment ur deal is signed and u take that car off the showroom floor .. knock 20% off what u paid for it.. within a year, that will knock even more ...

the 320i is no slouch at all .. but the added power of the 328i and its original price being that much higher on initial cost will make choosing the better spec 328i the deal to have ..

we considered changing our 320i for a 328i earlier in the year, and even though i got the car well under its retail price .. i was still around 70k short on a trade ... so the 320i definitely doesnt hold value better than the 328i ..

328i unless there's some significant wear and tear on it but there shouldn't be

Hi Moose,

How can I confirm this ?

I spoke to the dealer and he mentioned that this car is a demo and had no owner, all he knows is that the car is part of BMW SA fleet or something and he is trying to 'de-fleet' it.

328 will offer better resale value, simply because there's less of them on the road than 320's

The market is flooded with 320's at the moment, selling for half of what they cost new.

Is their a way to check the condition of the 'internal components' - im assuming that if this car would have been driven hard if it was on the showroom floor.

Apart from you physically checking out properly, get him to give you a report confirming there's no comments/previous accidents etc.
Insist on a quality check and report, negotiate for them to maybe give you a new set of tyres or something to sweeten the deal.
Also check with Coisman that the car hasn't been previously registered to someone if this is what they say.
The good thing is the car will still be on motorplan so anything u not happy with can be sorted.

Errm, isn't that the reason to have motorplan, and the kilos are only 8900kms so if a problem does arise it will be surely before motorplan is up.

It's a no brainer mate... 328i

Can't even compare. The year and mileage on it is NOTHING!!!

Doesn't matter mate, that's what Motorplan is for. You can literally buy with your eyes closed.

With the mileage between the 2, I would consider the both to be "brand new". The 328i seems better spec'd as well. The 328i should also retail better. 328i it is for me.

Like the most have said, the 328 is the option to go for.

When somebody else has already taken part of the knock on the cost it is a better deal than new

who told you about my vivo

But yah, its a big jump from my current car to any of those two mentioned. I need a new family car since we have got a 1yr old and at the same time I get to drive a car that I like :)
