Let us know after you changed the oil seperator. If the oil seperator is blocked it would cause to much vacuum and if you left it too long can cause your valve cover to leak.

Where are you getting the price for the cover gasket? please let me know

Hi Henry, you too mate!! :thumb:

Ok, everyone, so the new PCV is in, and we also did a Tappet cover gasket replacement.
The oil was actually leaking out at the little bolts situated between the plugs. The rubber from the gasket was so hard that it broke apart like weak plastic.
The PCV cost R485 at Goldwagen, and the Gasket set that included everything we needed cost R340 at Willem, (bavarian auto parts on the forum)
So in total the parts alone was R825. So now the labour costs...
Originally the guy quioted me 2 1/2 hours for the PCV, and 1 1/2 hours for the Tapet cover, at R380p/h vat excluded...
Now me being a great client, and also soursing this guy clients in the past via referal, and also assisting some of his clients by getting them to buy some parts from him, like a gear knob, a new bonnet emblem, a new battery, while I was waiting for my parts to arrive, I paid in total, including the parts, R1100... :mmm:
This was for the parts and the labour, so I like only paid R1/2 hour's worth of labour. :)

I have only driven the car back in peak traffic last night, and then to work this morning, so I can't really say if there is a performance difference, but for sure the funky vacuum cleaner has gone away.

Frikkie, Jacques wants me to bring the car to him to try and sort out that idling problem I got, you know, the one where the revs go up and down when I put on the AC.
Now I still think it might be power related, as in my battery is getting old and can't sustain the powerdrain, but that's just my oppinion.
Concerning the garentee... Frikkie said i get 6 months on everything :thumb:

Everything except suspension parts (referring to my job).
I was within the 6 months. But next time I will ask written confirmation as to avoid disputes.:yuck:

I still think it is the parts and that the FEBI Bilsteins will last a bit longer.
We don't have potholes in our area and I try to avoid roads with speed humps - therefore time will tell the story.

I am just glad for you that the freaken tapped cover was not the cause of the oil leak.

Thanks Sank.
I only took 1 picture when the tapet cover was off, cause I was sooooo sleepy from working nightshift, I fell asleep in my car while waiting for the parts to arive.
I woke up when the cover was off, the PCV was out, and the mechanic was drinking coffee, waiting for the parts. :)

Coisman really glad you got your car sorted.

I'm also looking to let Jacques do all my future work on my car. The jobs I can't do my self.

Jacques does good work, just make sure what is covered by his guarantee and what is not for all the circumstances you can think off. As I said, next round will be written confirmation.

So I've driven my car over the weekend, and I can't believe how much quieter the car runs...
Maybe I got used to the noice, but even the growl that the engine made is gone. It used to have a nice rumbling coming from the engine bay, but no more.
Also it feels a bit down on power too, but once again, I might be paranoid. :)

Guys, Need some more advice here...
ok, so the car is running great, but i am still stuck with an issue that we can't seem to diagnose...

When I put on my AC, either when its to make the car cold, say on 18 degrees, or to warm up the car, say 30 degrees, the idling will start to go up and down, dropping to 500rpm and jumping to 1200rpm.

This is even more prominent when the car is still cold and not on temperature yet. :dunno: I NEVER happens under normal driving conditions, ONLY when the AC is switched on.

We ran full diagnostic, picked up no faults, MAF was swapped out for a few days, still no change, no air leaks, idle control valve is fine, so even my mechanic is a bit clueless...

My question is this... Can it possibly be that my battery is a bit old?? Its still the factory fitted battery from 8 years back, and I've had the amp and subwoofer in it for the last 4 years, and because of this the volts aren't 100% making the car surge-rev itself in order to keep the power correct?? :dunno:

PLEASE anyone, advice would be great.

Thanks :thumb:
