Oi!! Skiet die bliksems indeed!!

I am going to have to go down that road with my Wife's car in the next month or so, but I will supply the oil and filters even if they are from the agents - seems like they want to slap on a profit to the parts just because they "supplied" them. But the labour is crazy!!! Okay, their F1 Service bay may be where the catch comes since it is emphasised as being fast. Oil change on an E46 with all the typical workshop equipment should be very quick...

Sump-plug washer comes with the oil filter, at least it does with the Midas parts which costs R120 or thereabouts. Oh and this also includes the rubber O-ring etc.

Last week I ordered the centre console cup holders and coin holder to replace the existing and of course broken tray with slide cover. I also bought mud flaps which they had in stock. Since they had to order the other parts I thought I'd have them fit the whole lot in one shot. Went home and decided that fitting the mud flaps was really not rocket science and decided to do this myself. But with interior trim bits and clips so easy to break I thought it might be best for them to remove and fit the new parts. So phoned to book the car in also for their F1 Service Bay and before I could get a quote for the work to be done had to make the booking which I did. Was then put through to the service or costing department to get an idea on the cost for the work - to remove and replace the centre console tray with the supplied cup/coin holders etc. So eventually I get the quote, roughly R300!!!

So after this I thought, let's go and take a look - went to the car and literally after 10 seconds had the old tray in hand and all clips intact! R300 for 20 seconds of labour!! Madness with a capital M!!!!!

Collected the parts the following day, fitted and cancelled the booking!! :nonono:

Guys, BMW seriously have to consider their costs. Nothing is free yes I agree, but how much does the parts really cost to manufacture?
R121 for a copper washer ??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

I guess my R80,00 keyboard just broke (I also blame the stupid keyboard for all the typos that I make) :argh:

This is insane, and don't think other manufacturers will have it that much cheaper.

How much value does the dealer stamp actually have as opposed to a 3rd Party service centre stamp?
It's a service history right?

And then again, the oil change does not happen that often for city dwellers.

After my "trade in" episode, I can for sure say certain stealers are skelms :tease:

Everyone has to make money and these businesses do have huge overheads, but this is just ripping people off! Okay, fair enough, an F1 Service Bay I would think is one of those situations where they can make some money because for the convenience of the car being worked on while you wait they are prioritising your car compared to regular workshop jobs. Thing is, if they quote you an amount for work to be done, then any further work that will elevate the cost must be okayed by you.

Now here's the catch, agents are clearly expensive when it comes to labour, even Toyota from my past experience! But this does not mean that third party servicing companies aren't ripping people off - and then there is the workmanship and workshop environment that varies. Would rather pay a bit more for professionals in a decent but well equipped workshop to work on my vehicles than save a few pennies for a rubbish job.

And so this is where I am all for good old fashioned "word of mouth" recommendations - lots of very talented and experienced people/business out there, so always happy to share good/bad experiences for others to see, and of course to see their shared experiences.

Bloody agents - thank goodness our cars aren't made out of wood or ever need to get close to a wood-workshop!! :nonono:
