So it has been just under 2 weeks of driving with my rims all cleaned up and waxed. In preparation for the Promotec photoshoot i decided to give Gabby a wash and see how the wax is holding up. Have to say i am impressed with both the Rim wax and the Opti gel i sourced from Crazy detailer. The opti gel kept the tyre nice and black, with no dust sticking to the tyre at all. I am not a fan of the wet look so it meets my needs 100%.

Prior to waxing

In terms of the rim wax. this is the pic before washing, not too bad considering the kms travelled were basically the same as the pic above before i waxed.
almost 2 weeks later, after waxing. There isnt alot of brake dust build up and the rims still have a shine. Even the tyres look good.

Close up

Now i can finally say that abmi's advice works..., just used my pressure hose, rim wax + karcher FTW. But i still used my trusted wheel burshes to get out any leftover dirt.

the difference close up

Unfortunately it was dark out by the time i finished so there arent any further pics, but there will be tomorrow.

As per my thread on the Promotec Sub forum I did a baseline dyno and thereafter did a Promotec upgrade and D/P. a side by side comparsion

and for some reason the 2 dynos have different starting ranges for the hp and rpm, so my overlay of the 2 looks like this.

The dyno setup is a sience of it's own and has caused many discussions between various parties here in the forum.....

Just take it as it is, go always only to one and the same dyno if you do tests o your own OR go to others with others for comparison reasons.....

Update, as per my promotec thread

Drove to durban last weekend and managed to get 6.1L/100km(down from 6.2L) going down and 6.5L/100km (down from 6.8L) coming up.

Speed was between 120-130km/h, I hardly used the Cruise Control down, but used it all the time on the way bar the overtaking and braking.

It was such a pleasure doing the long drive, i used to think my camry had a very comfortable ride but this is obviously on another level. The only difference is that the camry did not have leather, which maybe was a bit comfortable after a few hours. Nothing that a short stop doesnt sort out though.

I am now considering doing the long haul to Cape town and stopping after6-8hours of driving (the little one wont sit any longer in his car seat). Will be requiring some decent accomodation just to rest along the way....any suggestions?

t that speed I'd average about 4.9l per 100km because i would be in neutral most of the time. :fencelook: ha! Ha! I joke!
That consumption makes me envious. Insane man, and the car goes like a Mac-hine

Congrats on a fantastic buy! Of all the BM's I have had, this is the one I would rate as the best all rounder.... pace, space, economy... and can be huge fun to drive..... especially round a track like Kyalami - can upset a few folk with "more exclusive" machines :)
I miss my e39 M5 hugely but my e60 530d msport the most!

BTW on consumption - at those speeds to South coast I used to get 5.8 down and around 6.3 back (it seemed to be better more around 130kmh than at 120!)
Did a non stop drive once from Southbroom to Blouberg and its a 1650 km trip, set off at about 8:45 in the morn and arrived in Blouberg at just after midnight. Only stop was at George for juice some 987kms on the tank at about 140kmh. Best drive of my life, got out fresh - not at all tired or stiff and was by myself with no one to bug me about stopping for a toilet break, what music to listen to or anything...

Yes, its an awesome package, even has the straight six noise when you want it

I think the problem i have is that I dont drive drive often enough and on my long trips its almost like i need to get used to the car

thats excellent consumption hey,

Other than getting my speeding fine this weekend, as an indication of my speed during the trip.., i managed to better my consumption coming up to Pretoria from Durban.

My consumption previously was 6.5l/100km with speedo cruise, this time at 120km/h in a 120 zone , 105 in a 100 zone and 85-90 in the 80 zones(provided i see the sign :fishwack:) i managed to get 6.3l/100km.

I wasnt in any hurry and still found the drive relaxing and only needed a short break ( let the wife drive while i caught some zzz), especially after a hectic weekend. I was thinking maybe the drive was too relaxed, hence i missed the 80km/h sign....

I believe my consumption down to durban was high as i forget to correctly inflate my tyres, i normally increase pressure on long distances and this pushed my consumption up(plus i was in a bit of a hurry going down, so the cruise control was about 10% more than the speed limit).

Those are awesome figures no doubt, which chip is it?
shew you were driving through the night, my situation didnt allow for me to drive at night. The temps would help though and less traffic and trucks, especially around the roadworks. My average speed according to i-drive was around 108 going down and 100 coming up. I also reset the trip meter when i fill up, which is night before when leaving to durban and after leaving my parents place when coming up.

The urban roads push up the reading, then it takes it time to come down on the freeway.

all in all, not bad for a 220 odd flywheel kw car

Spawn, yes man, give us a bit more info. What type of chip is it and where did you get it. That is awesome consumption. I always thought i did well with my E39 auto 530d going down to Durban from Kempton doing a genuine 120 when i got 6.1l/100km (16,5km/l) Decat and egr delete and of course deflapped.
