Hooray for mudflaps - they do their job well BUT...I've said it before...
Mudflaps on a Beemer is like a bib on a supermodel, imo.

Hehe, i prefer a clean supermodel than one with a whole lot of crap. ..Lol.

With the stock wheels it was fine but these wheels are wider and a lower offset, in fact they stick out more than the m5 wheel so it was crazy after that. I was afraid that the paint would chip under the rear bumper.

It wasn't a hard decision for me though. I prefer bibs

Like the splitters upfront, have you considered doing the rear diffuser in a matching vinyl could compliment the front splitters....and if it does'nt can easily be removed.

I have actually, the front splitter is not vinyled it is the original finish just polished up.

My plan was put gloss black vinyl on the splitters, mirrors , rear diffuser and rear spoiler . I ordered 4d carbon fibre vinyl off eBay but the post office didn't think I deserved it. ..

just after doing the detail on the car i made arrangements to take the car to ZF for a gearbox service.

After the initial concern that my mileage might be too high( 150k) ZF mentioned that they can check the oil first to ensure that it is off a certain quality prior to changing it.

I was chuffed that they were open on the 29th Dec and they were not busy which meant they could give enough attention to the car.

I tried to take pics but eventually got so caught up chatting to the guys that i failed.

Onto the 29th ..., once finding the place and pulling up onto the ramp the techies were quick to remove the covers and get a sample of the oil. the test was good and the oil was still in good condition.

I got a quick tour of the workshop and my goodness it has to be the most organised workshop i have seen. My experience with most workshops is that there is always grease.., but the ZF workshop was clean, some assembly areas are one step away from being a vacuum controlled area.

Based on this there was no real need to change the filter but on the advise of my diesel colleagues i changed it at the same time.

The only concern from ZF's side was some of the adaptation values which seemed a bit high but everything else was good. One suggestion from the ZF guys was to use the oil that is now supplied in the 8spd boxes which is supposed to be better but how i am not sure.

End result.., after a few drives(car not used daily) it has adapted now and i can definitely feel a difference in the smoothness of the gear change, In sport mode and manual mode it sometimes felt too harsh when not driving WOT, but that is gone now. In normal mode there isnt much difference but just feels a bit better in traffic.

All in all, I am happy with the outcome and glad that i was able to change the oil as the initial recommendation was that the gearbox is too old. If i have the car in the next 80000-100000km i will be doing it again.

This weekend I finally managed to get some diy done on my car and major Thanks to nikhil for assisting me or rather doing most of the work. I have a new appreciation for the man. He also showed me that you just need perseverance and patience. ..which he has so much that he shares it with other fanatics.

We started wanting to clean the intercooler but ended up cleaning the egr, boost pipes and a few sensors as well.

Upon removing the cover i was greeted by the following

Lots of oil on the boost pipes, a fair amount in the intercooler, I assume it's the first time the car is being treated to this.

After lots of swearing, figuring out and some googling we had to remove the following parts just to get the intercooler out.

The above pic is after cleaning everything up. That's lots of degreaser later plenty of soaking and cleaning with the pressure cleaner.

While I have not noticed a major difference in the car, i believe my consumption has improved but I have not been driving it as much as I would have liked.
