Next thing you know the gearbox, clutch, flywheel and crank will be one integrated unit  (and it will be held to engine by half plastic clip and half expanding rivets)

Naah, its just that we work on our own cars, so we not of all the irritating bits.

I would just like to make it clear to the people that might not know me that I love most BMW's (the cars), though I am not to fond of BMW (the company).

just wait till they rivet the wheels on and you have to take your car to bmw where they have a machine that can change the tires on the car... their tires with a 2000% mark up on...

If you call call clenched teeth and swearing under your breath joy, then yes, it does bring you "joy"

"Joy is having to break your arm to reach that bolt that vanished into the engine bay"

no joy is when you find it lodged in a place you cant get to without removing parts...

And yet more bolts vanish, or you break some plastic clips in the process.

Hi Guys.

Sorry for barging in, I had 3 bmw's 2 E30's and one E36 316i, all of them had problems, both of the E30's wiring packed up and the E36 was the slowest car i'd ever drivin, but I still love bmw's unfortunitly with my bmw's the previous owners had buggerd them up.

on the other side, I have a 1986 mercedes benz 420se, wich probably has 400 - 500 000 km's on it, the engine is fine, gearbox is fine exept for it giving me 3km per litre, it's faster than an E36 325i { one of my co-workers with a 325 can attest to that }, but the brakes have packed up, the ABS system only works when it wants to, 2 window switches has also packed up as well as the fuel pump,

So I have had less problems with the merc, but I would still buy a BMW.

in my books Mercedes is luxury and BMW is a sports car and if you buy a used BMW it is good value for money.

my point is that you can't call a make of car sh!t just because you have had a bad xperience with one or two.

@LTX - I dont think its fair comparing a 4.2Litre v8 to a 2.5 litre straight six. both cars are old....

I agree with you about not criticising the entire brand because of a few bad experiences.....

I love my beemer, but i dont hate on other brands. Theyre just a lil behind in the evolutionary chain.... :)

Interesting reading. I am lucky enough to have been involved with Ford and Mazda in the past and I can say that I was lucky enough to take one of the first Mazda3 MPS cars around Zwartkops Raceway. The times we were setting with that car were quite impressive concidering its a front driver. It comes with an LSD so it really is a good handeling car. I own a BMW and will buy another one soon, but for what they are, the MPS 3 0r 6 are good cars.

The worst part of all is that when the dealers do any work on your car, the same would happen to them, but they would just be like "screw this, they would never know" and leave everything in that state.
I ever so often see cars on the freeway that have something flapping under them. Guess that is the broken clips that hold the undercar covers in place.
