I think it might be an idea to get it in writing that your E46 is not part of the recall......just in case you get an idiot at BMW telling you your car is ok....

Just came back from Lyndhurst, They seemed unaware of the recall, searched my VIN and found nothing...

mmmm

I think I'll phone the Call Centre....
I phoned autobahn and jsn , both of them said that my 06 e46 is not affected. Go figure.

I sent them an email this morning with my vin and they said mine is not affected:flyfun:

Whats that email address sir, best to get it in B&W?

I emailed my parts guy at my local dealership in el. He checked and double checked with one of the service reps. Both said it's not affected. They probably don't have all the cars on system yet. I do have it in email that it's not affected so I'm covered in that respect.

So BMW SA can barely fix cars under motorplan when the work is done for "free", so I can't help but wonder how badly they will be able to screw it up when the work is actually done for free.

Don't think I am brave enough to have the idiots at the dealers tear into the interior of my car.

I feel the same about the matter. Any of you guys know of a reputable BMW branch to have this done at? Leo Haese is my closest option, but I have heard some uninspiring stories of poor service from them. As a simple DIY enthusiast, it saddens me to think that I have no faith in a trained BMW technician.

I was informed from Germany that all E46 models are included in that but even in Germany most of the BMW dealer have not received the latest informations and lists....the reason is that BMW is not able to provide the necessary amount of airbags in short time...

Sweet but I bought mine 2nd hand do I just call bmw and find out?
Think I'll do that just incase 90% chance they gonna say noooooo sir your car I not effected by this recall to save them a quick buck

The best is to contact BMW SA directly with your VIN number. They will check on the list to see if your vehicle was originally fitted with the airbags mentioned.

I actually have an airbag warning light for my passenger front left airbag. Might need to call them...

Hello Chris! An airbag warning light comes on when there is a fault on the system, like a wiring issue. The recall campaign however, is a preventative measure taken by BMW. Poor quality airbags are being replaced. This is based on other vehicle manufacturers' experiences with the same supplier's product.

Yep, best to phone and give them the car's VIN number to check. Strange, because there was the same recall last year, and we phoned and were informed that our car was not affected... Will have to phone again and see if they have now changed their mind! :nonono:

Hello Philip,

It is the same recall campaign from last year, which has been extended. When vehicles are still under Motorplan, it's easy for the dealerships to contact the affected car owners. However, you can imagine there's no way for them to know who the current owners are of the E46's. So the campaign remains open until all affected vehicles have been repaired. The media just helps the dealerships in this regard by publishing articles such as these.

Mate of mine had this done on his '04 330i, apparently a lot of the E46 models require this recall.

received a call from smg canal walk a few days ago............. my car is booking in tomorrow. smg informed me it will take approx 1-1.5 hrs to fit it.................. (very happy that no matter the year model of ur car if they find a factory fault they still call owners to correct the recall)
