I checked with Auric Auto about a month ago and was told that the car needs to come in, but I need to leave the car there the whole farking day.

I think I'm going to try another dealer.

I just phoned SMG now. They first need to check a serial number on the airbag first to be sure, and then need to order parts. I have a 'formula 1' booking tomorrow which hopefully only takes an hour ..

Very interesting, do you guys think my E46 will also need this recall? -> 320i E46, 2002 f/l

Think I should call BMW Nelspruit and find out?

Yeah I called a dealer, gave them my Vin nr, that's how they pick it up on their system.

I phoned them cause I'm the 3rd owner and Bmw most probably called the owner they have listed.

I had mine done on the 12-09-14.

I personally know the people who booked the car in for and the mechanic who worked it. I was there for 2 hours mainly cause I was standing around talking with the guys. It is quick thing to change. Sat in the car with the guy while he was doing it.

All BMW e46's will be recalled, you must see the list of people they have phone.

Interesting Link on the subject.

Best to rather phone a dealer. I had my e46 checked yesterday and they do indeed need to order parts and fit a new airbag or whatever ..

I was at my local dealer about two months ago and asked about the recall. They checked both my and my son's E46's vin numbers and said no, they do not have to come in for airbag fix. Found it very fishy that both are fine. Should be happy I guess, as it is quite an inconvenience as I live about 70kms from the nearest dealer.

Phone then again. Tell them to send a mechanic, it is a really easy job for them to do.

They told me this whole exercise is going to take a while.

Remember this problem started 2/3 years ago.

I check 3 times in past 2 years at the same dealer. Then my mate who works there asked for my VIN and told me come in.

Had my e46 done last week thursday at SMG Cape Town...

Very prompt and quick with the change out...

Im happy as my mom uses the car alot so I do feel a bit better now... all I need to sort out now is the roofliner as its sagging from age.

Had mine done today:thumbs: took it in at 7:30 and by 11:00 it was ready. Speaking to the parts guy he was saying it's more of a precautionary measure, but I feel better knowing it's sorted.

how does the recall work? would car have to be purchased throuh bmw or would any e46 be eligible?

All e46's whether it is the first or 25th owner. Give your VIN to the dealers ask a few dealers not just one.
