m5[e39] Vs m3[e46]

The e39 M5 for sale on this forum set off some memories of wanting one these cars when the infamous advert was screened showing the Ferrari white stallion as a donkey on the badges of those red supercars .
How much faster is a stock e39 M5[maybe with decat] than a stock e46 M3 [also decat].
Never really saw one of these cars in action but know that a e55 benz simply walks away from my E36M3 , and I think and E55 should be faster than a e39 M5.

E55 is still faster. E55 holds record for fastest quarter mile from a stock car in car mag a few years ago. Something like 12.0 or high 11s

The E55 is still faster today. Since the E60 probably has a smorgasbord of issues that sap power and performance.

Anyway a E39M5 and a E46 coupe are quite closely matched in straight line speed, upper hand would go to the car that is performing closer to new or who didn't fudge a gearshift.

The E55 would be faster at the reef than an E60 M5 but at the coast the E60 should have it. Comparing it to an E39 M5 isnt really a fair comparison since the the E39 M5 is more than 50kw down. An E46 M3 and E39 M5 are very close in performance but I would choose an E46 M3 Manual.

Personally I prefer the look of an immaculate E46 M3.
(Not the abused ones with sagging bumpers, covered in scrapes, weird gaps between panels and faded/yellow headlights)

e46 m3's really were great cars. Still a dream of mine to get my hands on a CSL
