Guys, we're missing the point here. The ///M cars are in a different league. It's not all about straight line speed with an ///M car, but the whole package that makes it special. Does it really matter that the M3 is quicker/slower than a 335i? No, it doesn't. The ///M has that special sauce, that is only reserved for an ///M car.

this argument is getting tired. x35i are way more than just straight line speed. remember when you say whole package to take price into the equation and then determine if the package is still THAT much better.

my 135i does everything better than an m3 except go around a track faster, yet it is half the price.

would i take an m3 over my 135i, no. because like twinz, i like turbo cars and the m3 doesnt thrill me as much.

have i driven an m3? yes e46 and e92

does that mean i hate the m3? never! its beautiful piece of engineering but its not for me. i would take it over most cars, but not over an x35i. so i will continue to argue the point that the x35i is the better package.

does that make me right? no, its just my opinion, and like everyone else, i am entitled to one.

Bold statement mate.

April fools is finish :roflol:

Enlighten me then :)

I will agree to change "does everything better" to "does everything as good as and some things better" ;) compromise is great

@Josh-ZN I agree with Ash M, you are entitled to your own opinion but you cannot even begin to compare an M3 with a 135i. While I think the 135i is great bang for buck and an awesome car in its own right its simply a mass produced vehicle for the masses, whilst the M3 has been the benchmark of the motor industry for many years for a reason and is a result of the M divisions best engineering. For me its not about straight line speed, its about the package and the M cars deliver just that, a full blown drivers car. Unfortunetly the NA motor isnt as tuneable as the x35's for the guys wanting more kick but fortunetly we have the blowdryed M3 arriving for us soon.

If you compare the 335 with the M3, 80% of the M3 parts were replaced by the M Division vs that of the sedan. There is a big difference, all round.

Have to say I am looking forward to the new one.

Except for the CSL and GTS, M's are also mass produced and depreciate almost as bad as other bmw's....

I gave up arguing. I have every comfort feature necessary in a solid high performance car that handles just great for my road use. I leave almost all m3's in my wake (except sherwins) and best of all it didn't cost me near R1mill. No brainer really :fencelook:

Wow just JB4 and no M3 can beat you even at the coast. Your cab's flying.

It takes a +400wkw supercharged M3 to show you a set of pipes.

You racing the wrong M3's/drivers buddy.

Ash, sometimes its best to just let it be.

Josh obviously have never had a run on the highway with an M3, it will take a lot more than a map to beat one from 160+.

And since your car isnt stock, it would only be fair to run against a mapped M3 too right?

you're 100% correct but I dont race up to those crazy speeds. you shouldnt either unless you on a track :tease:

map your m3 wont make much difference except leaving a huge hole in your pocket. oh wait, there was already a hole there from the purchase of the m3

Well I don't do robot to robot, its pointless. Most the time the M3 just spins in first and by the time you played catch up the contender is already celebrating how fast his car is and sms'ing is mates how he just beat an M3. However when rolling, there is not much room for error and on the highway the M is deadly, as they have always been.

Lets just agree to disagree, I have had many turbo cars in my life, one with 590wkw, this time I wanted something that runs well day in and day out to the office and back without worrying about fuel quality etc and that I could use on the track. Next yr I will be back on the turbo band wagon but it wont be from BMW (until the new M3 arrives)

Maybe a run is in order but I think Josh only goes to 120 from what I gather from his posts so you are not going into 3rd gear Ash. and there race will be over in about 7 seconds.

Just kidding

:roflol: sorry no can do at the moment, i am driving a rent-a-POS as my car is at panel beater

i think my current 0-100km/h time is around 35 seconds in this POS car.

me go over 120km/h? never! there is a spietkop on the forum so i obey the law :pimp:

Ok... I drive a e36 M3 3.2 stock except for a decat and k&n airfilter. I ran a 335i cabrio on the highway that was most probably stock and he couldn’t pass me. I was cruising at 120km/h he drove up my rear bumper looking for a race as I was in the middle lane and he could have passed on the right. I dropped from 6th to 4th and hit the loud pedal and instantly pulled a car and a half on him, into 5th and he managed to close half a car, @around 230 or so the //M starts slowly creeping away from the 335 and it stayed like that until 240km/h when I had to tap off for my off-ramp.

I also ran a 135i auto with the upgraded exhaust from BMW @ ODI. I thought I was going to get broken! 1st gear his by my back door, 2nd gear his by my fender, by the end of 3rd gear the 135i was ahead, there was a fender length between the cars over the quarter mile. I have video footage of the run.

What’s funny about the ///M is that it doesn’t feel as fast as it really is. The only time you realize how fast the car is, is when you open up a can of whip ass on modded hot hatches etc.

So Peertjies well done your run.
