if you're married make sure you get the buy in from your other half :=):

This is rule No.1, obviously

True. It took a lot of convincing, but now she understands its a passion ///M. Yes it is expensive and you can get yourself killed if you act irresponsibly, but life is short... Do the things that make you happy!!!

You can get killed in a 1.0 Atos too.

I usually just buy what I need and can afford and tell my wife when its time to sign, she does not mind. Our philosophy is, as long as I pay for it without needing any sort of help from her, it should not bother her.

Sorry. my bad I meant 228i and not 220i. But here are reviews including M2
/snip

nice stories

/snip

Unfortunately, none of that matters to people who are only impressed by acceleration times, which seem to be a majority of the forum members here.

Similarly, 99.9% of people will never take their 228i or 235i to the track and will never experience the nuances described above, while you can experience the sound and acceleration of the N55 daily.

The review was about driving on normal roads and track. Anyway, its their opinion.

Personally I prefer M4 any day because its power delivery is engaging.
I got to drive a M3 around swartkops the other day and I now have a new love for that car. I have no idea why I read so many bad complaints about it. It was just brilliant in every way possible.

It was also the first time being in a M car and now I'm more than certain I want an M car as my next car. It was just so engaging and raw compared to other BMW's. If the M2 offers me that kind of M'ness (You know what I mean) then that is adeciding factor, even if the M235i is better value and the 228i is more balanced, I don't think either of them will give me the same feeling that I got while driving the M3 on track but the M2 may (or even better if you take the car reviewers seriosuly). I'm still waiting for the M2 but after driving that M3, I've been searching around for a great deal under a mil that I can find.

Which M3 bud? And also, have you ever driven anything else in the same class?

F80. I did the M-performance driving couse and on a side note, I recommend it to people wanting to learn more about tracking driving and especially for people with an F82/F80.

And no I haven't driven anything in the same class ... I assume you are talking about a c63,etc.

Yeah. Anything with a lot of power.

The reason I ask is because you really have nothing to compare your experience to, so saying that the M3 was brilliant in every way possible is a little premature on your part no?

Its like a man starving in the desert coming across a cheese and tomato sandwich. He is going to think its the best food in the world. Granted it might be an amazing sandwich, but its nothing compared to what is out there ;)

Disclaimer* I am not throwing shade, just trying to keep things in perspective. I also agree, that the advanced driver training course by BMW is great fun.

Well I can't compare it to anything in the same class but I can compare it to many other cars such as a few Ferrari's, mclarens and masaratis that i have been in or driven plus tons of different BMW's mostly x35i models.

The most recent I can compare it to is a Ferrari California T which I drove around red star and while the Ferrari is much faster especially when hauling down a straight line, the m3 was so well balanced, the cabin noise was beautiful (even though it may be fake) and the general experience was on par with that of the Ferrari. However I will say when you compare this to a 458 on track, it's a bit different since that thing sticks like a train on rails but the levels of grip in the M3 were just astonishing.

Then comparing it to more normal cars such as the 335i and 135i couple's. Generally I dont like the 335i since it just feels like a normal car to me and the 135i is favourite of mine but even there, the 135i feels so soft compared to the M3 on track and especially the power, mid/high range power of a 135i is a bit empty at higher speeds while the M3 seemed to haul ass anywhere in the rev range.

I have my fair share in experiencing other cars so that's why I was so very surprised by the M3.

I would love to drive a C63 or mabye a Alfa Guilia (only two cars I can think of in the class) to properly compare.

asking prices are still stupid high!!
like 1.2 bar:thumbdo:

Prices won't subside for a while (if at all). You could still buy brand new with some options around for R1M not so long ago. With all the boxes ticked yes over 1.2M.

I know we all hoped this would be an 800K odd option, but limited edition Golfs sold for R750K and later at gougers for over 900K. CLA45 is over R1M, RS3 over R900K... unsurprising the M2 is priced where it is.

I think this is the year that even RV/GFV can't save car sales. Until now some could either justify the cost somehow or were willing to take on the debt... at this point, coupled with escalating prices that pool of people is diminishing rapidly.

ye understandable

but why would you drop 1.2 bar for an M2 when you can buy an m3/m4 CP
I personally think the biggest let down of M2 was that they use a glorified n55.

should have gone with an s55 but than they would sell no m3 or m4.

bring on the m2 CS!

My dealer told me if you have patience you can get a M2 speced at 950k to 1bar but that is if you can wait. Personally the biggest reason I did not go M2 is because of the N55 Engine coming from an M135i I could not justify the cost of an M2. No regrets after purchasing the M4

My friend got a quote from i think Zambesi, on a white one for R960K, quite highly specced, so i think the drop is starting to begin slowly buy surely.. I was told by a salesman the 240i is the way to go or wait for the M2 CS.. but looking at M4 comp prices, where will the M2 CS even sit :hammerhead:
